Just a quick question for you guys. I'm (slowly) working on a yz250 rebuild. The bike was used for woods riding by the previous owner and the swing arm has a few nice deep scratches in it that are less than pretty. I'm going to get it PC'ed but I'd like to get it cleaned up a bit. My question is, what is the best way to go about it? Is there a good way to smooth out those areas? I'd be tempted to grind it smooth with a dremel tool but I feel like that may cause it to have a weak spot there. I mean essentially that would thin the metal in that area.
You guys have any opinions here?

weld the grooves in and then grind it smooth? Or just get a new swingarm

weld, grind, and sand if youre going for perfection. you can hide a lot just by filing out the high spots. even on a raw swingarm, by going over the whole arm with wd40 and scotchbrite a few minutes. Obviously it wont be perfect, but it wont be terrible either.

Ah, good stuff, thanks guys. I think I'll just knock out some of the high spots and try JB weld as a filler.
Another question, do y'all think a gunmetal gray for the swingarm, linkage, and triple clamps would look good? I'd like to do something kind of subtle, the frame will remain unpainted, but I don't really want to go with black on anything.

I was also going to say JB weld, but show it to your PC guys first. They will know the best way to go about it and honestly if you can make a few passes with a 120 grit flap wheel to make it not so deep, the PC might totally cover it. PC, like wallpaper, covers a multitude of sins.

I wouldn't bother with PC on the linkage. I would be afraid that it just won't hold up as that stuff can take a beating.

If you're in mountain biking you probably enjoy good beers. You need the BreweryMap from Pintlabs application on your phone to enjoy good brewery on the way and explore good tasting beers. We did same kind of trip in California in 2012.
