I think Stewart trying to develop the new generation Yamaha took a lot of wind out of him with all the crashes, and possible concussions. Could be why he takes Adderall now, as it is prescribed for concussions as well as ADHD, just a guess though.

How many times have you hit your head to make a post like this or are you just new to the sport? Stewart's crashing started WAY before he got on Yamaha.

EDIT: Stewart would have won more motos on the Suzuki if his hand had been connected to his brain at Colorado. Guy was riding completely over the limit while under zero pressure. Classic Stewart making unforced errors.......it took him forever to get what Hannah tried to tell him years ago. A win is a win regardless if you win by a bike length or a minute.....or something to that effect.
He won a lot more races on the Suzuki than the Yamaha. I've been in the sport since 1976, thanks for asking.

I'm not by any means a Stewart fan. All thoose years I was cheering for Chad so it's pretty much the other way around.

That being said, James was absolutely dominating the sport until that stupid reverse engine showed up.

He also broke his wrist right when the reverse engine showed up. IMO, if he doesn't do that, he continues to dominate regardless.

(Not that the bike was helping.)

(And not that going to JGR wasn't far and away the worst mistake of his career.)

(Except maybe for the Adderall thing. But if the colossal goat-fuck of 2012 doesn't happen, maybe the Adderall thing doesn't either.)

p.s. I second (or third) that Barcia needs a start...but he'd most likely end up around 5th.

Barcia has done like 5 races on the damn bike! Geeez
I wonder...will he even do 5 more before he flees..?
Or will he settle for survivalmode in SX and wait for the nats?

Like 500guy stated, the Yamaha 250F class is grooming young riders to lead team blue in the 450F class. The future is bright for JGR
How do you know they are going to stay on Yamaha's? Honda, KTM, Kawi etc…may offer more money than Yamaha. And lets face it, the 450 Yami hasn't been real good for anyone in a while.

You would think...that with the distinct lack of success (and wins) by the YZF450, and with it not taking a rocket scientist to figure out that the "backward" engine design is a huge factor in that lack of success...that Yamaha would regroup, accept that their design isn't exactly setting the world on fire, and go back to a more conventional motor design or at least something that worked better.

But, I guess they're so invested in the present design that they "have to make it work".

I thought we were talking about crashes. Given your length of time in the sport did you forget the numerous head hits James took on his way thought the ranks? James crashed on the Yamaha and he kept crashing on the Suzuki until he started taking Adderall is my assumption. Guy is a much smarter rider on Adderall from this fan's perspective.

Bottom line I disagree your attempt to blame the new generation Yamaha on any of James' current woes. Respect your opinion but too many crashes before that period of time (years on Kawis years of crashes) prevents me from agreeing with it.

Of course he has crashed on all the bikes he raced, every rider does. And IF he is taking Adderall for multiple concussions, it would most likely be from numerous head hits on any bike. I don't really know about riding the new gen Yamaha at those speeds, that's why I listed the numerous pro riders that have publicaly bashed the bike. From what I saw he went from winning multiple championships and an undefeated outdoor season, to crashing nearly every weekend. It makes sense what Bailey said about it taking a few years to get it capable of being pushed at its limits, it was a radically changed bike. No harm in agreeing to disagree.

Talk about being new to the sport, sounds like you've e been hit in the head 2many times yourself, if thats how feel about James

And in a situation like James had at Co, no one was in his shoes and talking about it is pure nonsense!!!

Rough!

I agree with Gix, Barcia will get some results... He's too good not too, and hasn't had a good start yet... But so far this year he hasn't looked great at any point, just good.
I totally agree.

If we knew what they were struggling through we wouldn't give them such a hard time which surely effects their confidence.

Not to mention what the team owners (possible future employers) think - by the time they know that there was a reason they were shit they already have an impression.

I agree 100%! JS7 did not get along with that Yami! Reed didn't like it either and that's why JS7 wound up on his ride. Then when the new bike came out when he signed with JGR, things really went south! Both for James AND the 450 Yami!!

James had sketchy moments twice before the photographer deal that first moto. Once hitting a braking bump going into a right hand corner and the other time was passing Weimer on the outside going to the edge of the track if not past it to do it. I was watching the race just waiting for the inevitable and it happened. If you recall James got out of shape in the same section the lap before so while the photographer certainly didn't help matters I can't blame the bozo photographer. Maybe if I hadn't watched how James was riding up til then I'd feel differently but it was only a matter of time IMHO before James drilled himself into the ground that moto.

I have hit my head too many times but it doesn't keep me from being an objective James Stewart fan.

It was James that changed his line in traffic at Phoenix not the motorcycle when he broke that bone in his wrist. I am also not 100 percent sure it was on the new generation Yamaha but it might have been if it was 2009. Doesn't matter what the motor or frame was as that was a classic James pre Adderall mistake. This was also during the time that James' posse size was at its peak and he had more than a few distractions going on IE Bubba's World.

I like the more focused on racing James Stewart a lot and am looking forward to seeing him race again.

They would have to eat a lot of words if they went back on that design now. I wonder what their bike would be like today if it stayed like the rest of the bikes, but made as much horsepower as it does now.

I get the feeling Yamaha was trying to re-innovate the game like they did when they came out with the YZ400 and ended up with a turkey

JGR switches to red, yellow, orange or green with Barcia or any of those "front" guys, and they will win races.

I think Star Racing would disagree with you on the reverse engine. 250 National Championship and a pending 250 West SX championship isn't too shabby for a design you don't think much of.

Im talking about the 450 specifically, people say that the smaller bike isnt affected as much by the change.

I have never read so much BS in my whole life. The new Yamaha is a great bike. Pieck was looking great on it until he broke his foot. Barcia is running where he was on the Honda. No one thought Barcia was going to be a podium guy every week. Hell at this point, only Dungey is a consistent podium finisher.

I am a little surprised Barcia is not getting better starts on his Yamaha. The JGR machines have always had the most HP. But then again, Barcia has always sucked at starts.

Webb is probably already damn near a signed deal for JGR. He is a Yamaha guy. I would not be surprised to see all the of them, Webb, Martin and Plessinger all end up on JGR. All have long working relationships with Yamaha.

Lets say you got into that top ten group. An amazing accomplishment. I'd imaging the numbers make it harder to be a top ten supercross rider, or less likely, than playing NFL Football or MLB Baseball.

You get to the top ten...at some point , do you think it might be safer, smarter, and career extending to look for 5-10 vs 1-5 based on the risk-reward thing? Especially when you might not be on the bike you like?
