Cool ! Did you do the work yourself or had a suspension shop do it ? I have a White Bros modified ( added spring ) '81 YZ250 shock that I want to add the Honda reservoir to. Would rather farm it out and have them install an emlulator or whatever it is that is commonly used to upgrade the action. Am thinking Pro-Action at this point, George Quay is the old school guru there I hear.

Sorry if I mislead anywhere; this is going on an 83 RM, not a Yamaha.
The Fox Factory offerings were way ahead of their time. I have the remote styles on my 79 CR250 and they used the shim stack theory back then. I did have to build some aluminum reservoirs for them but they work great, at least so far on the two tracks that I have used them on.

I don't know if they had a twin clicker for the 83 RM or even the Suzuki Full Floater setup as I've only found a manual for the Honda and Yamaha shocks. That said you could build one if you knew total length, stroke and mount dimensions. There are lot of street bike twin clickers out there and lots of ATV and snowmobile fox shocks for cheap.

I did the work myself. It's a 79 YZ400 shock with a 04 kx125 valving piston, all balls seal head, fox podium clicker ressy off a polaris quad shock and dual spring setup that combines the tender spring from the polaris shock with a main spring from another fox shock I bought off eBay with the correct rate for me. Probably got $160 into the shock including the custom braided hose from the local Parker hose store. I will have to tune the valving but that shouldn't take more than a few rides.

For your shock you want to run a modern piston design like a racetech piston. I just happened to have the kx piston from when I raced a klx450r and bought a cheap shock for valving shims. The cr ressy should work but you will need to get a custom hose to go from the shock to the ressy as I doubt the cr ressy will have the same threads as the Yamaha. Your local Parker fitting store should be able to help you.

I also have a spare 79 shock that the white brothers modified that I plan to rebuild and try or I may put another kyb piston in to help me tune the valving faster.

Previous owner had it for rm, length and mounts appear correct.
When it arrives I will either make it work or eat it I guess.

I'm sure it's the right one. I just didn't see a manual for it on the fox page unlike the manuals for the yz and cr.

Hey I just bought a Fox airshock for YZ125/250/400F
Am hoping it could be made to work on a 250E, otherwise a frame
change to F will be in order. Got a great deal from a friend,
could not pass it up.

I also bought a White Bros modded stock '81 YZ250 shock off of eBay in late December.
Came with their dual spring set-up. That one's for my air cooled YZ175H project and
will get the RaceTech piston set-up for it as suggested above.

The F shock will be shorter than the E shock due to the pivot bolt change and length of the swingarm shock mount arm. You'll like the F frame better anyways as they brought the steering head angle in which helped it turn better. The G and H frames were even better yet and then they went to the linkage setup in 82 and succumbed to peer pressure to be like everyone else. LOL

Any chance you have notes you are willing to share on the shim stacks for the clicker build 450exc115? I just sold my 520SX and am restoring a YZ465 G to vintage ride. I have two original G YZ mono-x shocks, a KYB clicker reservoir and an old Fox CD reservoir in inventory to work with. I'd like to get in the ball park quick so your build notes would be very helpful.

Notes? LOL since it was a shot in the dark build I didn't write down the stacks. I can tell you it was about 1/2 to 1/3 the shims you'd use on a conventional linkage shock. I did that because the shock travels 8 inches for 11 inches of wheel travel and a modern linkage shock is about 4 inches of travel for 12 at the rear wheel.

The fox ressy is just 8 bypass settings and a few shims covering lots of ports so I'm not sure what is in your kyb adjuster that we could compare the two over.

What piston do you plan to run?

I have not pulled the shocks apart yet. I'll have to get them apart to figure out what to do for the damper piston.

For the reservoir I'd really like to go with the Fox. Should be here about Friday. Here's the picture of it.

That should work just fine. As for finding a piston for it, just look for a shock with a similar sized seal head diameter and shaft diameter. If you stick with kyb you should have a better chance of it working too. Or just buy the RT kit.

If you want someone to do the work for you give Rich of RKS Suspension a call as he has some experience with this from his WB days.

So cool ! Hey I found out my '79 F shock is worth close to a grand on eBay. I'm locating a clean '79 frame for it, that and a swingarm on the way in. Will be a piece by piece build. Thanks again for the info here !
