Thanks...you just got me started on an Alice in Chains buying binge on iTunes. Smile

From CT, too. Doug was god to me as a teen in '92. He showed up at a local NESC Central Village race on his factory Honda. Basically like Micheal Jordan stopping by to play some rec league ball. He jumped the whole front section of the track, craziest shit I've ever seen to this day. Turned a single and a double into a triple that no one in their right mind would say "you know I could jump this whole thing."
I was probably there that same day! I was racing 80s at the time and remember him jumping some triple or quad along the fence there that made my jaw drop.

You should have been at the finish line when he beat Juha Salmenin in the Florida GNCC about 5 or 6 years ago. Most heroic ride I have ever seen. Juha on a works KTM, Henry on a borrowed almost stock Honda 450. Henry crossed the finish line just feet ahead after 3 hours of flat out neck and neck racing and collapsed in a heap. They carried him up onto the podium and he said "that was the hardest thing I've ever done". He then went to the pits for an IV. Juha gave him props in his podium speech.

I don't know if this is of any help but I met a chiropractor in Carlsbad CA. named Brian Austin that said he was the guy getting lapped by Doug when that happened. He said something to the effect of seeing Doug fly over his head and explode upon impact and then McGrath ride by. He said you can see him in the footage. I haven't looked at the footie since he told me that story but I did see some results of him for some Nationals and SX's from back in that era in the vault. Nice guy....and I believe him. You can find him on facebook.

I just looked at the footage and I believe that's Brian.....the closest guy to Doug when that happened!
I'm watching the footage again and I must admit, I never noticed that lapper before! He must be so glad to not get landed on! I will reach out to him. Thank you!

Doug was one of the first riders to hire a trainer. Before Aldon even knew what mx was, Doug was training with the King himself Elvis
