Sounds like Reed is hinting at a Union.

Years ago in formula one, the drivers were told what to do and to just shut up and race, regardless of track conditions, safety, money, etc... They formed the Grand Prix Drivers Association (GPDA). It is voluntary to join, but most drivers are members, and in a billion dollar sport, only costs a few grand a year to be a member. The drivers meet at every race and discuss conditions, rules, safety, etc.. whatever they want. There always needs to be a balance between both sides in any sport, profession, job, etc. Even the American Medical Association (AMA) is just a huge union for doctors and medical professionals.
Its a great idea for Supercross. Riders can discuss ways to make conditions as safe as possible, perhaps have input into rule changes, provide input into salaries, contracts, conditions etc. At the moment, riders are at the mercy of promoters and federations and "in the name of entertainment", they are getting banged up, crippled and left without a say in any matters and a lot of time left penniless if anything goes wrong.

Didn't read this whole thread but wrote the following for the other UNION thread that was promptly deleted so I figure I'd past my thought here instead...

Reed was wrong. Unions tie stuff up in litigation often bastardizing immediate warranted justice.

I take all this as a rich crybaby who is wrong but threatening to lawyer up and sue because he should be able to do what he wants, wrong or not. Trey hit Chad by accident. Reed gets pissed and takes retaliation out of emotion that could have hurt someone seriously. That stuff happens but it is wrong. Fess up and take the lashes Reed. The responses I'm hearing from Reed show me he doesn't really care about the issue or what happened to Trey. Business is business but there are also some ethics involved. Reed in this case has none.

I had no respect for Reed for a lot of years because of stuff like this. I had just started to respect the guy with his appearance of more maturity starting and running his own team and manning up to the struggle over complaining/making excuses. Seems he's back to his old ways...

The riders may need a union, but not for this, and for Reed trying to use this to form one should eliminate him from a board position if there ever is one, in my humble opinion of course.

How many union threads do we need? I think one is sufficient.

Yep. Groundhog day, and what you jerkies can't understand or don't get is at the base of it it doesn't matter who's right or wrong, they've made an irreversible decision whilst having a recent and long history of making the wrong ruling and reversing it later.

Both cases, there was initial contact and a retaliation. Both riders retaliated against went down. One got injured. You're arguments are on intent or the situation of the other rider on the track, Did Bowers not mean to hit Osborne? Chad had no way of knowing Trey's hand was off the bars, it was his right hand, and hitting him as lightly as he did, I guarantee he wouldn't have assumed he'd go down.

No one is arguing Chad did the right thing, or that Trey didn't. They both fucked up. The system fucked up worse.

No reason to start name calling Crush but maybe jerkies is an endearing term down under. Silly

The point you can't understand or don't get is once Reed rubbed against Trey in retaliation what happened after that is on him not Gallagher not the FIM not the AMA. Ditto on James not filing his paperwork. If James had simply filed his TUE he'd be racing right now for a championship. At 58 I am tired of people not accepting responsibility for their actions and instead playing the blame game.

If anyone wants to play the "it's not fair" card well welcome to the rodeo called life.

I definitely don't agree with multiple threads on the same topic. I hope I didn't sound like I was an advocate of multiple threads on the same thing. I was just going to post there because it was at the top. I posted here instead because I knew there was another.

It is the same re-hashed shit, I'll give you that. But I have better things to do than google and post pics of people yawning. You need to re-check who is wasting their time.

There is enough money in this sport for a union. Riders who vote against it are not helping themselves.
But given the average brain content I'm sure it'll never happen.
The owners and big corporations will make the same amount of money, regardless of what they say. Most resistance comes from the fact that riders will have a say and owners don't like to be told what to do.

Reed's older and wiser and has seen the sport from the other side. He gets it.

Not going to happen anytime soon. The last 5 weeks should prove that.
Chad was nowhere to be found in support of JS7 just a few short weeks ago. Now there's talk that other riders will turn around and stand by CR22?

It's too selfish of a sport. When a guy gets suspended, his competition is all too ok with the punishment because of its indirect benefits for himself. There are plenty of examples throughout the last 20 years.
Vegas 95
CR and RC fuel issues
Points suspensions for "dirty riding"
JS7 suspension
CR black flag

Vegas 95 I was standing next to the five racers in the pits who boycotted the 250 Main when we heard the pack roar off. We all looked at each other (think HoT had two of the riders...DeHoop and Swink maybe along with McGrath, MX Kied ? and Mike Jones possibly) and then everyone walked off and I headed to the stadium.

It was a surreal moment and I knew at the time I had just witnessed history.

Jerkies isn't offensive, it's actually pretty polite!

And I agree, of course he put himself in that situation, as did James, big difference, a retaliatory move and ruling was set at a1 when bowers punted osborne with a much harder contact... precedent set and an inconsistent ruling to follow. There is nothing about racing line in the rules so at the base of it, it's a hit, hit back and ruling...

Go back a little more and they've consistently ruled differently and then also reverse differently for differs issues.

Dq'd Reed and a race ban for Phoenix 10. Then the same guy was reversed and proven wrong, his comment was I know what I saw. The same thing for Bogle and Malcolm, a block pass gone wrong and a "strike", also in retaliation? A 500 dollar fine after the race for both of them... See?

There was no precedent for James' case, only from other sports and it looks like they ruled fairly consistently from them

"CS: F1 is incredible really. I've never seen a company like F1 in terms of revenue generating potential. Over the past five years we've had one/two recessions and its revenues and profits have gone up. The revenues last year were $1.6 billion, 2011 was definitely $1.5 billion. Going back to 2007/08 it was in the region of $1.2 billion. It's gone up significantly."
