55 years old and have done Crossfitting for a year and a half. The best word of wisdom I can give about Crossfit, SCALE!!!!!!!!!!! I see people come in and try to do the heavy weights and the stupid movements and end up hurt. I let the instructors know right from day one, "I have done enough heavy weights in my life and I don't want to do anymore". Crossfit is a good workout and with the right mentality it is no worse than most aerobic classes.
