I agree w/ the penalty assessment after the race. IMO, both riders screwed up (and I am a Canard fan BTW), and both should be handled accordingly. I would have kept them two separated until after the race until the AMA/FIM officials could have them (along w/ the Team Managers) sitting in with them both so they could have discussed it. I'm not quite ready to hang Reed yet, although I disagree w/ what he did post contact w/ Canard.

I think the whole scenario was blown way out of proportion. Was canards move a bad idea? Probably. Was reed's reaction a bad idea? Probably. Was the black flag a bad idea? Probably. It's competition. Shit happens in competition, regardless of what sport it is.

Waiting until after the event defeats the purpose of a black flag plus the penalty being handed down during the race is consistent with what Gallagher did with RV's restart penalty.
