Just scrolling through The mxa site and there was an article about the bikes that are harmologated for this season.
Basically says that 250f's are allowed in the big bike class so riders on different coasts don't have to buy another bike to ride on the opposit coast. Sounds like a bad rule to me.

They should say anything not over 450 can race in the 450 class.

That rule has been on the books for about 5 years now. Only a few guys have ever tried it. Of the ones that have it has been privateers, none of the faster 250f riders have made a go at the 450's.

How's it a bad rule? It doesn't put any of the guys on 450s at a disadvantage. I know Vince Friese did it last year, and I think again this year, to get some extra race time without having to buy 2 bikes. He raced west coast 450s on his 250 and then went down to the lites class once east coast rolled around.

Its a great rule IMO.

Some guys are better on 250s and so makes racing better.

Privateers have been coming out to west rounds for years. Gives them seat and test time on a real track. As I recall Kyle Peters just missed making the main by 1 or 2 spots at several rounds last year.

Some factory sponsored riders might get better results in the 450 class and finish higher in points by running a 250 effort but their contractural obligations to race the product their manufacturer wants them to race/advertise won't allow them to do so. The rather significant injury potential riders face when transitioning to the powerful 450's and the resulting career hit (moneywise) that can occur as a result makes me wonder why some riders do it. I guess the way the system works its either move up or quit.

SX needs to drop the displacement limitations and let a rider run what he feels he performs the best on. I think if we saw top riders allowed to do so we'd see 250 riders and 450 riders sharing the podiums frequently.

You don't see many riders picking the KTM 350 if given the choice.
Even if it's not a disadvantage to ride a bike with less CC's, I think it can still equate to mental problems and excuses for not doing well.

It's not SX having limitations, it's about there being two separate classes just like always. The 125/250 class has always been for the younger guys just coming up. Once you prove yourself you move up to face the big boys. And it's not like this is a new occurrence, what about back in the day with 500s? Your modern 450 has a pretty mellow and easy to use powerband. If the average pro can do it, the factory supported professional should be able to.

They put that rule In there so IF they are ever short of a full gate they have an escape plan to pull in riders to get a full gate.

It would be cool to see one of the top teams put a good rider in the 450 class on the opposite coast on a 250f to see how they would fare.

Think everyone is missing the bigger picture of the article... husquvarna TC250 was homologated for the 250 class according to the list. They have since fixed it. Can't have a 2 stroke winning anything...

Does it affect you? Riders have done this for several years.
