You have a vested interest in "educating" your kid-----the school system has a vested interest in "programming" your kid.
What is the school district's position on the 1st Amendment? Compare to yours.
What is the school district's position on the 2nd Amendment? Compare to yours.
What is the school district's position on religion? Compare to yours.

It's your kid-----raise them as YOU see fit. BTW, going against the grain is never easy.
Good luck and charge on!
This.

Your kid will be in school for 5 more years, but he'll have to be a man for the rest of his life. Show him how to be a good one, however best you see it.

As for me, I tell my kids that it's never OK to fight unless you are saving someone's life; yours or someone powerless to defend him/herself. And then, you had better fight with every ounce in your being.

While I'm not big on the spying part, your son did nothing wrong. He has a right to defend himself. Period.

I am a new teacher at a high school that came to national attention earlier this year. Because my name is attached to this account, I will not say much about what happened, although it ties in with the content of this thread.

Our school administration is not like those described in this thread. We work along side the police to resolve most of our escalating issues. If something like this happens, the parties involved are dealt with. While we can't have a bus incident because we are small enough not to have busses, we have had fights on campus. Students are dealt with accordingly.

Take this to your district. If I were in your situation, I would physically walk into the district and ask to speak with a social worker, conflict mediator, or the district psychologist along with your son. This may grab the attention of the district far better than any paper work. If you do get a meeting with any of these people, ask questions about bullying and take notes.

let me know if you have any questions. There are teachers with children that I can ask all about this stuff

How is any of this being PC? Why is protecting the bully PC? If I were in Muff's shoes, I'd let the litigation card fly and see what happens. If his kid takes an ass kicking again after he's formally notified the school, I'd say the school is entirely accountable.

well no updates and most likely wont hear anything until mid Jan.

I am fully prepared to take this to the district. Son reports students calling him snitch in the halls and on the bus. i tell him no worries turn your head and ignore. He fully understands he did no wrong and that sometimes doing the right thing is looked down upon by others. he also understands this is about something bigger than just a fight at the bus stop.

oh we had a talk already. i told him he was lucky this other kid didnt know how to fight. and explained next time dont go from a head lock to side control and use a closed fist on the head. next time go for full mount and drag elbows across the face. wont look as cool but the other kid sure will rember it.

we play fight all the time. i have gone from being able to escape at will and not worry about strikes to constantly defending strikes and having to think/plan my escape from his mount. the hardest thing to teach him is a good guard postion and how to use his weight when in the mount.

I hate to be "that guy" because I don't even agree with what I'm about to type...

but you might want to delete that comment. If it does go to some sort of litigation or further action, I wouldn't want to have to explain/defend what you just typed. I absolutely agree with you, don't get me wrong. Just probably something not worth defending if it gets looked into. Obviously, your username isn't your real name (although that would be hilarious) so I doubt it will be an issue.

Best advice in the thread right there.
