Allright guys,
I'm busy with cleaning my frame !
I have tried red scotch brite and wd40 and that gave me a scratchy finish..

Today i bought green scotch brite but also a brown and a white one wich are softer and less aggresive.
Green gave me again a scratchy finish, At least the white schotch brite gave me almost none scratches but giving me again a polished mirror finish wich i don't want

What result i trying to get is a nice grey finish, without a glossy polished effect.
Like the bottom of my frame.

have a look in my thread and you can see how I did mine in a brushed finish. If you want just dull without the brushed finish all you need to do is spray it down with aluma-bright and then rinse it and it will look like your lower rails....

I'm building a Ricky Carmichael MXoN 2001 replica, I want to get the same finish as his bike had.

I don't think this bike had a brushed finish ? Kinda hard to see..

Also go with the grain of the frame tubes. long continuous strokes. that will give you less prominent swirly scratches. I started with a 600 grit wet and dry and went down to 2000 grit to get a nice smooth finish and then i finished it off with brown and then white scotch brite. The 09 CRF frame I'm doing for a friend has come up like new with only about 4 hrs of elbow grease.

Ok guys thanks for the tips, They were useful ! I decided to go with a lightly brushed finish..
I started with cleaning the frame with a aluminum wheel cleaner.

Then i used green scotchbrite and WD40 (this time i used scotchbrite of 3M which felt alot different of the one i tried before).
I did the long continuous strokes method like Slosh said.

And 2 hours off elbow grease later, I wiped the frame with brake cleaner and then rinsed her of with degreaser and water.

I only need to finish it off a last time with white scotchbrite or again with green, Because i think i can get a little better result then what i now have..

Much better! I have learned to research before trying. Results are much closer to what you want when you first ask someone that knows what they are doing!

This stuff works wonders if you have a Napa in your area.

I had to use alloy wheel cleaner, Bought a agressive one for a good clean result !
Here in Belgium we don't have NAPA products, Neither we have that wonderful polish stuff of mothers polish. Would lik to have one of these.
