I don't think that anything needs to be changed in the format with SX, especially with semis back. I do strongly think that points could add to the series! There should be bonus points for fastest qualifier and heat winners. This would make every race a little more exciting. It would give racers who are privateers or the guys who have won heats but never a main a better chance in the overall championship. It would also help the top guys gain points after a DNF round do we are not crowning a champ with 2 or 3 rounds to go in the series.

I do not like the idea of adding points for anything other than main event finishes. if you start adding points for random things, you could possibly end up with something crazy like a guy like Gentleman Jim Holley beating Jeremy McGrath in points.

Honestly, the only thing I would change about supercross would be to make the main events longer. But at the same time I can if you have a famil especially little ones being there from 12:30 to 10:30 can make for a long day.

Love the idea about adding big bombholes and sand sections. This is entertainment bottom line from feld's standpoint, whatever gets people excited and challenges the riders will be a hit. Bo one has mentioned that basically the same riders in the 450 main every week, week after week, which IMO is the most effective argument against the heat/semi format. I have never been a casual fan, so this is only conjecture, but I feel that showing up to an SX as a "monster truck fan" would be confusing as hell. People aren't showing up to spend 15 minutes digesting the program to understand how the qualifying and points system works. They want to see meaningful races and be entertained. Also, I don't believe it would be readily apparent to a casual new fan that the 250s are a development class. Please realize most of these people did not grow riding and aren't obsessed like we are, and it doesn't sound so crazy. A 125/150 class would be a crowd favorite whether the cynics among us admit it or not. People love the MEC partly because of the amatuer all stars and superminis, while an SX is bikes that all look and sound the same to the casual observer on repeat for a few hours. I do not believe this is a zero sum scenario, we absolutely can make the sport much more entertaining and easy to understand for new fans without delegitimizing the athletic aspect.

Having to parade out the redundancy of the heat races and semis every week is completely counter to what makes so many other sports success plus the outdoor nationals and MEC. People go to see the top riders compete, yet the vast majority of the night are throwaways that the riders don't care about that are kept around for tradition and formality. We are on the edge of our seat from the moto 1 gate drop to to the end of the second motos during the nationals, same with Mains 1, 2, and 3 at the MEC. Let's bring that to SX, it's way past time.

I forgot all about this. This goes to show that stupid rules have no place in this sport. You lose a championship because you get good starts and win. If you get shitty starts and pass a lot of guys and get 4th.........it's worth more than winning the damn race.

I think we need 1 or 2 different rounds. We already have Daytona which is a great curveball, now we just need one round to do 3 10 lap main events, and have it be the same round every year. Maybe one other round do a joker lane. Out of 17 races there'd only be 3 change ups when you include Daytona.

I'm not a NASCAR fan, but while watching sportscenter I look for the daytona and brickyard highlights... and the road course rounds highlights.

This sport, like many began as a racers sport. The points made sense. The guy with the best finishes being the most consistent in the end wins the title. Every racer understands this.

However, in the interests or promotion, raising the awareness to the general public, marketing efforts this sport, like many, have become a spectator sport. The need to keep the general viewer interested down to the last few races equates to big money. Hence the problem we have now.

Towards the 2nd half of the series one guy (usually) has so many points that the races become a big bore. The racers themselves start going through the motions more and more, the passion falls off, good intense battle are fewer and fewer and the racing becomes mundane.

The goal in changing the game up a little would be to keep the excitement level higher throughout the entire season. Not just answer the question on every racers mind, "Who is The Man?"

So now the racers are participants in a game show. Hoping to be able to jump through hoops in order to entertain the viewers all the while hoping the newly added factor of "a little more luck than before" falls their way.

I am all for it.

40Plus, What are you all for? It looks to me like you get it. This is entertainment, and audiences have a short attention span and a channel changer in one hand and a laptop in your lap multi tasking. You know who you are.

Yes please. lets make sx and mx as dumb as the average person. Its worked so well for Nascar.

When SX is on a real network live every race then we can throw stones at Nascar. Even with declining attendance they smoke SX in sponsor money.

I agree. Joker lane is fun for The Cup but not for a professional series.

How about we stack up the field behind a pace bike every yellow flag like F1 and Nascar. Now we're talking manipulating close racing. It still doesn't work for F1. Boring. Naxcar has been the talk of the office today and we barely follow it, but a good fight in the pits after the race after rubbing each other stirs the blood more than NFL. Wait, maybe we should let rider's rub regularly? And fight like hockey? You gotta think outside the box. Get me a Red Bull and Vodka.
