I was walking through the shop a little bit ago and damn near stepped on a huge snake.
Damn near sprained my ankle(SP?) jumping out of the way.. I put a 13mm quarter inch drive socket next to it so you can get an idea of it's massive size..

31X10.50R15.... Regular ol tires.. It's a 4X4 though.

I hunt and fish, see snakes all the time.. I choose to leave them alone.

Hey, didn't you post some pics and info about your shop awhile back? Is that a heated floor? If so, look for some more visitors....starting to get chilly in your parts and snakes love em some heated decks...

Yep, heated floors..

This is the third snake in the shop this month.. This one is the smallest by far.
I've seen more snakes this year than I have all of my life. At least we don't have many poisonous(SP?) bastards around here.. I just throw them back outside.
My yard has a bunch of them to. I'll see five or six every time I mow.

Thats how I've been most of my 32 years. I've bailed from my tree stand a few times because of snakes.
This spring, I finally sacked up and grabbed one of those pricks. Just doing that got me over my fear of snakes..Kinda..
I still don't like them, but I'm not scared anymore.
Now, if we are talking about a five footer or bigger, I'm gone...

Most adult copperheads are not very big. I'd rather encounter a 5 foot timber rattler than an 18" copperhead any day. At least the rattler may give you some warning before the strike.

Me and my MTB training partner this summer. Im asking her if she wants to touch my snake. Oh and that yellow bike isnt mine. That belongs to a guy we were riding with that took off running like a little girl when I stopped to pick up the snake. You'd think he would have rode away LOL. Wink

Whats all this skeered stuff about copperheads? When I was in high school, I caught (by hand) at least 5 copperheads a week on our place. Id put them in a large coffee can, put on the lid and freeze them. There was a local taxidermist who would pay me 5 bucks each for an unharmed adult sized copperhead. I guess he took the things and mounted in various ways and sold 'em.

As for rattlers or other snakes that can leap very far,,, screw that! Shotgun time!

Rattlesnakes have a strike radius of about 1/2 their body length. (if coiled).

You can walk up to a copperhead, and as long as you don't step on him, you'll be pretty safe. You walk up on an agitated, coiled rattler, you better not get within 1/2 his body length.
