I had previously convinced myself I didn't need a CR250 (since everyone else has one or is building one), but this deal fell in my lap and I couldn't pass it up. Very low hour, original bike. Cleaned it up a little since this pic was taken and rode it. Love it!

It sounds so good! The motor is still extremely tight and fresh, and has never even been opened up. Pretty sure thats the stock front tire. I'll work on a vid.

Good buy - that is the hot bike for the growing "non current" class they have in the AMA series up this way - it allows for up to 97 but the steel frame rules. Nobody is going to believe this but at Mid-Ohio some lady had that same bike that never had gas in it/was never started - bone stock original like the showroom floor without a single scratch. Her husband was a pro at one point and they have had it sitting in their living room since it was new. My buddy bought it and knowing him it will probably stay right like it is.

If you decided to come to Mid-Ohio next year you have a great bike to race.

I go to Mid-Ohio every year. Its a great time. I wish I could have gone this year. Would have loved to see that bike

And I would say you got a smoking deal on that thing. I wish I could find stuff like that around here lol

Wow!! So fresh! That's a great find!
Are you going to keep it stock? Ride it? restore it?
Keep us posted!

I'm going to ride it, but not very often really. Everyone wants to do a McGrath replica, but I'm going to keep this thing pretty much stock and original. But that could always change if I run across some trick, unique parts for it!

Urrghhh that CR of yours makes me sick dude! Its so damn clean, I've just seen another '96 CR250 on our local ads, and as clean as it is, its a far cry from yours - There's not much chance of finding a clean one like yours in South Africa. With a smaller market I think bikes are ridden to their bones here!
I mean that tank looks great in the image! so do all the plastics...
This is what I found for $1500...not bad, but not yours!!

Yeah I told the seller - explained my story to her, that I don't need another one, but I'd hate to see this one go to the dogs as MotoMofo says.
Maybe good to just hang on to it for now and start sourcing parts again. I do have the '95 MC graphics, fork guards, rear fender and Clarke tank, could make a nice pigeon pair of '95 and '96 MC replicas?
Sorry to hijack your thread MotoMofo, have you got any cleaned up pics or ride reports? I hear these machines are a blast to ride - the epitome of steel framed goodness...

The Texas Vintage Racing Club has a class for your '96. The first TVRC race of the fall season will be at River Valley MX in Boyd this Sunday. You should bring it out and spin some laps!

No worries, i don't see it as a hijack! I will grab some pics in a bit. It really is a sweet bike, even after all these years. The suspension certainly needs some attention and the brakes aren't that great, but with a little work I think itll be great.

I met a guy who rides that class, and he told me its awesome. Unfortunately the original chain slider already disintegrated on this one, and I haven't recieved a replacement yet. I have a 500 thats cleaner than this 250 that I've been wanting to drag out to a TVRC event, too. Going to try and make one soon!

So a loose MC replica would be the ideal way to go (or Doug Henry #4), that way you'll need the twin chamber Showa forks, and MotoStuff front rotor MC style.
Braking and suspension sorted Smile

So who's gonna buy me an air ticket, feed me drink and good ol' yankee soul food, and then send me home to South Africa?
If I leave now...

LOL, it would be worth the trip but you won't find any yankee soul food around here! Lot's of good BBQ and Mexican food though!

Ahhh, I've already thought about that! Any idea how well the shock on these things will perform with a revalve?

I've got my '95 shock working well with some shim shuffling and heavy oil.
