Advice on a jet kit -- 38mm Mikuni TMX

Edited Date/Time 8/28/2014 8:28pm
Is it possible to buy a variety pack of jets for a certain carb and/or a certain bike?

I have a 2001 CR250 with a 38mm mikuni TMX.

I hear that the 01 CR250 was more fun than a barrel of monkeys to get dialed-in.

Is it possible to buy a general-use "kit" or do you just make a shopping list of every jet you think you'll need and add them to your shopping cart one-at-a-time....

Before you spend the 80.00 on the JD kit and a bunch of time dialing it and moving your clip every time the wheather changes. Do yourself a favor and buy the JD Kehin air striker 38mm it comes pre jetted and also comes with the 80.00 jet kit. This will save you a ton of troubles. Not sayign you cannot get the TMX close or good but, that air striker really works. I did the that to my 03 cr 250. I bought the jet kit it was satisfying to a point but, once I bolted the air striker on I was definantly pleased.

Yeah I read that many people had done that. My pointer has hovered over the Buy button for one of those Keihins a couple times. I just hate to back down from a challenge lol I may go the Keihin route in the end.

Lot of info on Thumpertalk as far as jetting your stock carb or switching to a Keihin.

As someone who has worked with the '01 TMX quite a bit, my vote is for a Air Striker......life is too short!!

Just call JD it will wome to your door put it on and be very happy. i know I was. The jetting with a TMX is a losing battle especially in a humid area. I gave up. I even switched to kehin on my 125.

The nearly $400 for the Keihin stings a little when you have SMS (single mom syndrome).

A $17 nozzle and a couple mains and pilots may have to suffice for now. :^)

Thanks for the link.

I saw that there, but the shipping to Canada is $45, plus the exchange rate my visa card charges is currently 12.9% ($37) plus the import duty of $15, plus UPS's brokerage fee of $20-ish (apparently UPS needs a broker to handle the intricacies of the complex paperwork to get a one-square-foot package across the border)

So at $362, it is a little less than my $400 guestimate, but I have to say that I miss living in the good ol' USA. Y'all don't know how good you have it. :^)

Steph, have anything you want shipped USPS Ground, no border bullshit involved. Last package I got came from Kansas, $350 USD, didn't pay a dime in border fees or HST at the Post Office. If you're going to get nicked, that's where it will happen. Canada Post MIGHT collect for Revenue Canada, but not always.
