Would you be willing to share this info? I smoke marijuana daily and ride and smoke all the time. I'd love to hear about this.
Sorry man -- I don't want to out a guy for having a good time when I know that there are idiots around here that would use it as ammo against him.

That's antiquated thinking.

You would be blown away if you knew of the current top pros who partake in cannabis.

EDIT: I can't get over how dumb this BobbyM post is. I mean he has really outdone himself here. "The addictive opiates that Stroupe was hooked on weren't the problem; it's the non-addictive, medically beneficial and harmless drug that was really holding him back."
Have they been tested? Or are they not that "top" pro

I seen it happen to so many riders around here that had crazy talent. Yes I blame the Doctors they are legal drug dealers! I had a friend that was racing arenacross doing real good he had a lot of sponsors and his dad own a local motorcycle shop. So from the get go he had the money and support. Then he had a bad crash and dr gave him tons of pain pills and he didn't even care to ride. I asked him what the F@#K dude your are all healed up lets go ride and he was like no my back I gotta go see the dr today. Long story short he was dr shopping and buying off the street and finally he had to go to rehab and moved away with his mom. I heard he is back around but he is out of his prime. I think he is doing good now. Doctors can ruin peoples life.

I have other friends that were the fastest A riders in the midwest broke his femur and he said he took a few when needed but hated them and made him lazy so he said he threw that shit out and sat on the couch till he healed up. Never went pro but still rides and is super fast and has fun riding.

Hope Stroupe got his stuff together because I would hate that to happen to anyone. He has talent and a good rider to watch race.
Hope ever thing is good on his home front.

It's a personality flaw. I luckily don't have an addictive personality like many family
members who struggle with alcoholism. I'm recovering from knee surgery and took the pills for a week then flushed them the day I didn't need one. I didn't want the temptation. Some guys can't break away and get hooked easily. That's not the docs fault though.... That's a YOU problem. McDonald's doesn't make you fat, you do by eating it.

(Not saying 'you' directed towards you)
Part wrong. True you are born with a gene for addiction(opiates) like myself but a lot of doctors don't understand this. There is no need, for example, like one of my last drs. 120 ten mg. Lortabs and 30 avinza (extended release morphine) for one month. This was for a little pain in my back. This is what the dr..ordered and it does nothing but encourage the patient to want and eventually need more just to function on a daily basis. My racing and overall passion for life is gone because of my addiction and I regret it everyday. So don't go comparing it to McDonald's when you don't understand. People like you are ignorant and uneducated. I'm happy you don't have to deal with it but save your comments asshole.

I think there is a big difference between a top pro who might party here and there on off weekends or off season at Havasu or where ever, but how many are stoned every day and winning?

Now Adderall, or Modys, that shits routine for alot before the gym. You have to train otherwise you're bouncing off the walls.

Or before polishing engine cases all night long, or bringing spoke nipples to a a mirror finish like a proper tweaker. LMFAO

I like how they say that Speed calms down people with ADD/ADHD.
Sure it does. Now go from a Therapeutic dose to a 3 times dose, and you'll be roofing your house, washing the dog, and staining the deck with energy.

Doing a 30 minute moto would be taking a break.

LOL.

I feel bad for people who have to use pills habitually to live. I know it may start off as a necessity, but I honestly feel many of them have been on them for so long they don't even know if the pain would still be there if they stopped. Or they have gotten so used to living numbed they are unwilling to tolerate any pain at all. What's worse, living with some level of pain or living tied to a substance to sustain a numb life? A guy I work with takes these pills habitually for "back pain" and he is the biggest asshole ever. Being around him is a major emotional roller coaster. In the mornings he is grumpy and irritable as hell, a land mine just looking for a place to go off. Is it from pain or because he hasn't had his fix yet? He inevitably gets in some confrontation with someone barking at them and biting their head off. Next thing you know he is popping a few pills and he is zoned out, semi-conscious and useless. Walking around with his eyes glassed over.

As for the MJ and dirtbike connection, no, not for all of us. I don't get it at all. I want to be sharp when I ride and enjoy the experience. The dirtbike IS the drug. I've also had close calls with dudes who puff up at the track and then ride irresponsibly in their own little zoned out world, crossing lines in front of me, etc, yet they see no problem Bro... why the hassle man?????
I never get high before I ride. I like the rush I get from the adrenaline to much. But smoking a bowl after it's no different than having a few brews after.

...Yes, unfortunately opiate addiction can be a side affect of our sport.....My older son
is an example of it.....3 fractured vertebrae and hardware on his left tib/fib, pain management
had him on oxy, but he didn't follow directions, & broke the rules, outsourcing them when they
started the wean-down process....when that source dried up, he went to heroin in desperation....
He is now doing well, but the hitting bottom & withdrawls- thing was rough. Was it the Dr's
fault??? Fcuk no- it was totally on him, & he knows it.....
