Plastics and graphics arrived today. Would like to perhaps go NOS in the future, but for now I went with UFO and the quality is really good. The graphics are from Frank at EVO-MX. I have used their stuff before and you can't get better in my opinion.

It might be a few weeks before I can really get my teeth into the project due to a few other commitments I have ongoing. So just focusing on getting parts sourced at the minute.

How did you convince Frank to leave the "evo" off of the shroud decals?
Ryan it was all a little bit random!

I ordered the graphics from their website and paid using paypal. Paypal has an option where you can add a note to the seller, so i just stated that I'd prefer the graphics without the EVO logo if possible as I was going for the stock look.

Much to my surprise that's just how they arrived! The sales invoice attached had a hand written note "No Evo"

Pretty cool of them!

I will get pictures of the rods tonight. I'll have to pull the roller from storage.
Good man, thanks for taking the time and trouble!

Hey guys,

Sorry not much in the way of updates. I'm currently on vacation in Hungary for 10 days, so the CR project is having to wait.
I did strip all the plastics off before I left and gave it a good wash before the teardown begins. I have a couple of pics on my phone that I will post up shortly. WiFi access permitting!!

Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to post. I am interested in the pegs and mounts too. Are they in good condition?

I bought one of those new, had the team honda graffic kit and seat cover. I never could come to terms with that bike. think I still have the original new seat cover somewhere.

Hi all,

Not much in ways of updates on the CR Project lately...been on hols. Here's a few pics of the bike stripped down for a wash just to show how clean and unmolested this thing is!

I am still on the lookout for a few bits of bling, namely triple clamps and a pipe and silencer combo if anyone has anything out there? I will probably leave it at that as the bike is nice and original and I would like to keep it that way.

Small update. I managed to acquire a couple of exhausts for my current builds. The one in the rear of the pic is a NOS Doma GP pipe produced for Gordon Crockard's 2000 GP campaign. It's a non production item and was built to his requirements.
I plan to run this on my 2000 CR250. Hopefully I can pick up a silencer to match.

The exhaust at front was produced by Belgian tuning Wizard Johan Luyten as a test pipe for Gordon in 1998. It was only ever used once so I am assuming Gordon liked an alternative setup better.

I have emailed Johan about a tail pipe and he has replied saying that he can still supply.....cool!

I will post up some pictures soon of the 1997 the way it stands at the minute. I still plan on a full tear down and build over the winter, but for now other projects have priority.....according to her who must be obeyed!!!

I might have a few parts left over from my 97-99 CR250s. The wife has been hounding me to "get rid of all the
junk in the garage". I know I already sold all the plastic and the seat, but I may still have a pair of Pro Circuit Ti
footpegs. I'll check and post if I do.

Here's a picture of my '97 from back in the day:

Here's one of my '98 or '99, can't remember which:

All I remember about those first generation Aluminums was everyone wanted one in '97 because they were new and trick. By
'98, most racers were looking for another brand to ride while some of us, who were overly loyal, stuck it out, dumping a ton of
money and time into a losing effort. Honda rewarded us in 2000 with a much better bike.

Dogger those bikes are insane. Love the clean factory look. I notice too in the background your trailer. Is that the same one you currently own? If so that's pretty cool!

I am certainly interested in those Pro Circuit pegs if you can dig them out. Bear in mind I am all the way away in Northern Ireland, but I am more than happy to pay for shipping and whatever you need for them!

Thanks

How the '97 stands today. New plastics, graphics, bars and the Johan Luyten exhaust matched up to the standard tail pipe for now. Plan on tearing it down over the winter for a nut and bolt freshen up, add new tires and inspect and replace anything suspect.

I probably wont ride this bike (maybe one day), but the more I look at it the more I like it!! Probably wouldn't like it so much if I did ride it!!! Laughing

Might as well post up a pic of my 2000 CR250 as well. Please excuse the graphics and seat cover. They are what came on the bike will be coming off shortly. I did a frame up rebuild on this one and might do a build thread at some point.

Eejit well done again - looking good!
I used to stare at this poster everyday on my wall, in my highschool days...

I don't think you have too much work to do on this project, its just that clean! I noticed rear disc isn't oem, or maybe a later year model one?
Very jealous!!!!!

The pipe in the front is tagged with a VH badge. So it should be a 'Van Hasselt' exhaust, made in Belgium.
Do you know if Johan made these for VH?
BTW: Van Hasselt is still in business VH-pipes

Hey Dutchman thanks for that info.

I wondered what the VH badge stood for. I was told it was a Johan Luyten pipe by the person I got it from.
I think I will email Johan again and inform him the pipe has that stamp and see if he has any connection with VH.

Good to see they still make pipes. Hopefully i can get a silencer to match easy enough.
Must say that it's a very well made exhaust. Slipped on no issues at all.

The Doma on the 2000 bike has a couple of clearance issues, at the radiator and water hose that connects to the waterpump. Still, it's very well made too.

Thanks again

OK, checked my stash of PC foot pegs. I have three pairs, two steel, one Ti. One of them is clearly a first generation Three
hole design probably for a 92-96 CR250. The other steel pair is the later Two hole design that looks like it will also fit steelie
frames with the welded on brackets. The Ti pair is also a two holer but has the later style mount that's compatible with the bolt
on mounts that showed up in '97. This is the pair I think fits the 97-99 CR250. They look brand new, so they must have been
spares.

Your '97's looking good with the new plastic and graphics and I think you have a good plan to make it a display piece. The gen 1s are a lot better to look at than ride. Nice 2000 also, my favorite Aluminum framed CR250 from Honda. Here's a picture of my 2000 taken right after I finished getting it set up to race. It sported a Tom Morgan engine, JD ignition with auto switching, Factory Connection suspension and a whole bunch more. It was the fastest CR250 I ever had. Sorry about the picture quality. It's a scan of an old school film picture:

Good looking '97, 2-Strokes Only. Those striped seat covers were a major PITB to install and get the stripes to line up with the
shroud graphics. I ended up selling a whole stash of that plastic and seats (unused spares), to a guy on EBay years ago.

All this is motivating me to get back to work on my 2009 CR250 project. I haven't had a chance to even start it yet, but I think
this new engine will be even better than my all time favorite 2000 TMR engine.

That '00 is beautiful. The '01 style graphics look the best on the 2nd gens. IMO. And thanks! Yeah I can imagine it would be a pain to get it just right. I love the graphics, its a shame 100% Foregrounds isn't still around. Some Italian company makes copies of those radiator graphics now but no seat covers or number plate graphics to match Dry

Dogger I'm very keen on the Ti pair. Not really sure how the pm's work on here, but feel free to email me at darren.lecky9@gmail.com if you would be willing to let them go. Thanks a million.

Your 2009 build is really interesting and I am always hoping to see updates, but these things take time!! You have been a great motivation to me over the years so I had a laugh when you said my thread is motivating you! Really looking foward to seeing both your 2009 and 1993 bikes finished up. You always do an amazing job.

Cheers

2StrokesOnly, you did a great job on your 97. That thing is clean!!!

Do you ride it much and if so, do you like it??

I often thought the 1st Gens got a bad rep a bit unfairly. I remember riding a friends 97 and 98 back in the day and whilst I preferred my Yamaha, I didn't feel the Honda was terrible. I do remember the engines being arm wrenching rapid!!

Ha ha OnedayWhip you weren't the only one!!

Honda had everyone a little misty eyed with that Aluminium frame I think. It was like something from the future!!

Thanks! And yeah I ride it a good amount. I've never ridden a modern bike so I might not be the best for information as to the handling between it and a new bike, but I do like the way it feels a lot more then our '89 KX250 and our '88 Husqvarna 430. It was pretty harsh till I put in some RaceTech Gold valves in the forks and valved it for my weight (springs were already about right). I haven't touched the rear shock. I think it handles pretty good. It is a little stiff, but its not horrible to where its not fun to ride or to where I feel like I'll get killed riding it Laughing I think its mostly the internet "fueling the fire" that took it from not handling perfect to being the worst bike ever. Tongue And yeah, it is a rocket ship lol Its the fastest 250 I've ever ridden. The power actually feels similar to our 430 Husky (two stroke). Something you might wanna do is ditch the carb and get a carb from a '00 CR250 (Keihin PWK Airstriker 38mm). I did this on mine and it seemed to give it a bit more power and it made the tuning stability so much better
