of he last gen 2004 has the worst motor. The KYB fork is not that bad actually. You want:

install 07 rubber airbox boot on 02-05
install air striker carb
open up the airbox by adding vents.

.
Which air boot is the one I want, the left or right? The right looks bigger but the left looks newer, do I want the bigger air boot that looks to be well used or the smaller one?

The 2005-2007 CR125 was up to pair with the YZ125 2005 in hp, but MXA "felt" the hp didn't show on track while on dyno it actually beat the YZ or was the same, cant remember. That's just stupid.

Then as I have stated like three times last 4 years, it's pretty funny that some feel the pre 2005 bikes where lacking horse power and at the same critics are unable to post a single vid up where they manage to make that POS engine look pale...

The thing that has always been appreciated (in the many test I have read, and personal experience) with the CR125 post 2001 meaning 2002-2007 is the KYB forks. Those people changing them to Showas from the CRF250 or CR250 obviously feel more in tune with bike than its creators. Personally I love the forks, so plush initial stroke, felt like riding on asphalt compared to the Showas...

But suspension is a bit of dark matter to me, I newer got it, and can be easily fooled.
Edit: Oops, didn't check the post dates before replying.

I raced several 125s from 93 to 2005 and only had one Honda, a 2000 cr125. The motor was like everyone says, just slow and slower. I guess if you add all the mods like you mentioned and have PC port and clean up the cylinder and head you would be happy. The 5 speed tranny is a problem though. The 6 speed just works better on the 125s. I had a 2004 yz125 when yamaha had the 5 speed and same issue. I noticed they went back to 6 speed when they introduced the revamped 2005 yz. Good luck on the project. Sounds fun.

Hey OB! I know damn it.....I sold him that bike!

I did pick up a 2006 RM250 a couple weeks ago though. Going riding some where next weekend , just not sure where yet. Where were you for the OTMX round up at Washougal? I figured you would be all over that race.

Hope things are good bud! We'll roost soon enough.

Hahaha shit I'm slow this morning! Lol. I didn't know he got that bike from you. I've been in SoCal for eight weeks straight and was bummed to miss the old timers race at shougal. That's one of my favorite races.

I'm in San Diego permanently now, and I miss the NW tracks in the summer. But I'll be back for a little Moto soon, let's rip it.

yeah, a buddy of mine has a 2003, and while I am a four stroke rider (call it lazy or whatever) I cannot keep that pos on the pipe at all. I have ridden better 125's over the years for sure. He also slapped a set of 2004 crf250 showa's on his which improved the front end a lot. I don't know if your just dead set on Honda, but if I were in the market for a 125, I would get a KTM, YZ, RM, KX (in that order) before I would get a cr. Back in the day another buddy bought a 95 or 96 cr new, and that motor from what I can remember was way faster than the 03.
You gotta ride one for a little to get the hang. But once you do it's so fun.

Here's my 2003 Cr, project fun 25. Starting on it tonight. It will end up a 134cc, port & polish, 6 speed tranny internals from a 1996.

Go with an 02. You can run the old style HPP cylinders on it. The 02 is also the last gen frame. With the old style cylinder you can keep it stock which will have more power than any cr 125 with this frame and it can also be punched to a 144 if needed be. I have 2 02s 1 is a 134 and the other had a Plano Honda setup which was
the HPP cylinders.

Ill be enjoying this tomorrow! 04 with the aluminum plate airbox mod, as well as a 50/50 mix of pump and race gas. I am going to order up the newer intake boot soon as well, but overall I feel like the bike pulls pretty darn well. This was my main bike from when I was thirteen until I was about 16 (I'm 19 now), but I have been having a lot of issues with my 250 lately so out comes the 125! After riding it a few times, I fricken love this thing because it is so light and easy to turn. Lean into the rut and it does the rest, no need to manhandle it or have the bike ride you. I'm 6 foot, but am pretty light at about 145, so the lack of power isn't such a big deal for me. For the record, the plastics are not nearly as nice as they look in the picture, and my garage is not usually this cluttered, we are in the middle of rearranging everything and in the process have made a huge mess!

I don't know if my reply is a little late but I have a 1998 CR 125. The engine doesn't lack much power as soon as I threw a PC pipe and some reeds on it. But the handling of the 1998 cr blew me away compared to my '06 CRF250. The only down side is that it was hard to find a good setting for the front forks, but that is partly my lack of knowledge with suspension.
