I don't think MXA covers a lot of amateur races, but when they do, it's nice to have the added coverage.

Justin Jones was there with his dad, the legendary Gary Jones, who raced last year. Gary was very proud that Justin was named to Team USA for the ISDE, and I think it's pretty cool too... But what color helmet will he wear?!

The Loretta Lynn's amateur national is unquestionably the biggest motocross event this week and perhaps one of the biggest motocross events of the year for core motocross folks.

Based on MXA claiming they are the core moto mag..........doesn't it seem odd that there isn't a mention on their website this week about LL ?? No results, no mention that there was even a race in Tennessee this week.

Based on glowing coverage RacerX gave Glen Helen I thought MXA might respond in kind and provide at least a mention or two on their website about LL.

Maybe the coverage will come in print......or maybe not. I find it hard to claim "core moto" and ignore LL.
Do you subscribe to MXA or visit their website on a regular basis?
Yes I subscribe and visit the website 1-2 times per week.

Not sure that qualifies and regular. Have been a Jody fan for the most part since I was young.

Thanks for the kind words. We like covering all types of motocross races that we can get to. This weekend, we are covering Unadilla Saturday and a supermoto event in Delaware on Sunday.
Matt - you guys do an awesome job. Congrats !!

Wait.......a supermoto race......how did you get wrangled into that ?? LOL

To be very clear, my intention wasn't a bash.

I fully recognize that each publication has it's own agenda (and resources). They have to choose carefully what they dedicate those resources to cover.

My point was that there wasn't even a mention of the California kids that rode well, the Bakersfield boys, a summary of results each day, nothing.......

It is hard to compare the other big national amateur events with LL. The event at LL has become the big event of the summer.

I will continue to read MXA and appreciate the good things they do. That doesn't mean they can't be questioned about something that seems as relevant as the racing we saw last week at LL.

It is a little odd that there was absolutely no mention of LL's, regardless.

Davey and Racer X and a few of the other Mags. follow the Amatuer Racing much closer than MXA does. I think its better that a magazine does what they do best instead of trying to cover something that does not fit their magazines profile. But again this is just my opinion. Racer X does not do the indepth testing of new bikes becasue MXA does. And LL is a MX Sports/Racer X program. I do not think its anything more than that IMO.

It is a little odd that someone like you that already gave "your" reason why MXA didn't cover LL hasn't taken the time to answer my question of where do you get your inside knowledge:

burn1986 wrote: First off MXA is not a reader or fan based mag. In other words MXA does their own thing regardless of who reads it. They simply do what their sponsors tell them to. Their sponsors haven't told them to cover Loretta's so they don't. A bunch of hooping and hollering by us won't change it.

I wish a lot of the commenter here had been around when MXA was in its golden age during the mid '80s. I poke fun of them nowadays as well, but MXA was such a great magazine back in the day. I feel that younger blood in the editors chair might do it well, but it could also turn it into another 'transworld'. Much as I bash the "add a tooth, change the triples" aspect of MXA I still love the bike tests. It's sad to see anything get old, and watching MXA get kinda left behind in the digital age really depresses the 12-year old fan in me that still remembers wearing the covers off each issue when that was the only true in depth outlet for racing info. Jody Weisel is a fucking legend. There. I said it. Regardless of their stance on LL, the man singlehandedly defined mx for a lot of us.

Please keep in mind that I didn't suggest in depth coverage.......
How about a mention, maybe some results, perhaps a mention about a strong SoCal kid.

MXA features results from REM nearly every week.

I agree with another post that said Jody is legendary. He is in many respects a legend. As a kid we patterned our dialogue after much of the stuff we read in MXA. The quippy words and phrases, the crafting of bike tests etc.....all awesome.

My question was simply why a "core " moto magazine/website wouldn't cover what is arguably the biggest amateur MX event in the world. Not biggest in the sense of total number of racers, just biggest in importance and visibility.

LL seems to be as core as it gets.....

No Jody vs DC conspiracy, no purposeful slight....just an observation.

I follow amateur motocross as much as I do the pro's because ,for one,They are the future of the sport that we all love and ,two, You get to see some great racing no matter what class is on the track. Some of these kids leave it all on the track and ride at there limit the whole moto.
I'm thankful for Matt and his people at MXPTV for all the great coverage and awesome videos. His battle videos are pure awesomeness.Smile

We have someone posting MXA had no coverage then someone else mentioning there were a tons of photos on Instagram from MXA coming from LLs. Which one is it?

Everyone is entitled to their opinions but to say their web site is dated is incorrect. They just went through their third web redesign and have a lot more video. John Basher is doing a great job IMHO and actually races on the weekends when he isn't traveling to a SX or MX. Jody's article on the GH National returning is one of my all time favorites.

I think all of the publications have their own niches and respectively do a pretty good job. SX/MX fans have lots of options when it comes to print and digital content.

PS Matt and MXPTV kill it.
