"The 58-year-old Democrat had defiantly denied any wrongdoing after his 2013 indictment and during his February trial."

Haaa, This phrase reminds me of Lance Armstrong, hell it worked once why not again? oh I know....nevermind

WTF...

" After the sentencing Nagin smiled and hugged supporters as he walked out of the courtroom with his wife, Seletha, and other family members and friends.

Nagin is to report to the federal prison in Oakdale, Louisiana, in September."

Is this a common practice? Report to prison in a couple of months? Everyone I know that had to do any time, left the court room in handcuffs!

I still am in amazement that the hurricane katria clusterfuck gets blamed on bush. People were told to evacuate with absolutely no planning done by the mayor (nagin), nor the feckless governor of the state. Magically, it is of course the fault of the republican president that some folk are too stupid to realize that they may be highly out of their element in a hurricane aftermath. Quite a few of the "victims" stayed put thinking of the looting theyd Do when everybody else had gone. Strange how all the other states that get damaged always seem to be able to pick themselves up and rebuild themselves after a hurricane, yet the most reliably Democrat-voting "victim" class STILL hasnt recovered from katrina. It must be awesome to never have to take responsibility for your own bad choices in life. Always an evil republican, corporations, "the system", etc. Is to blame. Nagin would absolutely get reelected if he ran again after prison because there is absolutely no such thing as an unelectable Democrat in those deep blue states.

If theres one thing I learned in history class, its that the first responder to a crises in any state should be the president of the united states. The governor and/or mayor of said state in crisis exists only to appear in photographs while frowning or contorting his or her face in an approximaton of what he/she thinks is sympathy or pathos. Exceptions to this rule occur when the sitting president is Democrat. Then, he is allowed to state that he "...only learned about it (I.E. crisis) when he picked up the paper along with the rest of you guys!"

Not from NO but only bout 50mi away, Just love reading these threads. There's a LOT more to Katrena than ya'll will ever know and A lot of help and hurt from FEMA and other GOV. I was here and all I can say is it was one big mess. Not a Nagen fan in any way but fighting the GOV's unlimited doll's is not something I would want to have to go through.

Ive been on the Gulf Coast all my life, born and raised in Corpus and weathered everything from Celia to Alicia to Ike and lots inbetween. Nobody is gonna tell me that what happened in NOLA is anyone elses fault but local government. Hurricanes are not like tornados, it wasnt a surprise that the storm showed up, they had been plotting it since it was born off the coast of Africa. There was ample time to get people the fuck out, and NOLA had an emergency plan AND funding in place for just that kind scenario that came down. Not only did that moron Nagin not know the cities plan, he had couldnt account for the monies that were ear-marked to execute the emergency plan. When you are the Mayor of a coastal city BELOW sea level, it doesnt take a rocket surgeon to watch the weather report and see a Cat-4 storm coming and to say to yourself, "Hey, I might wanna get that emergency evacuation plan outta the file cabinet and get my peeps prepared to go." I mean, Im a dumbass Texakin and got my own home-plan in order too (extra gas, potable water, generator tested and going, plan-b safe-house to evacuate too, etc.) its not too much to think the head executive of an entire City should do the same.

Nagin blew it. End of story. All the apologist can kiss my lifetime Gulf Coast dwelling ass.

Oh yeah, the man is a corrupt liar and crook, too.

Funny thing is that 30 days later Hurricane Rita blew right through the center of Beaumont, Tx (where many NO residents had evacuated to) and did major damage to surrounding areas. The first two days after the storm before any outsiders showed up, all the streets were cleared (mostly by residents) and passable. Now it did take 28 days to get power restored to my house but my business was up and running after about 7 days. There were 11,000 utility poles down locally and major power transmission lines were down. It was a mess of epic proportion but not newsworthy. Go Texas!
