PC Kawi Team and TLD split?

Edited Date/Time 7/8/2014 2:55am
I noticed that their helmets, graphics, and sponsor sheet no longer show Troy Lee Designs. When did this happen? Troy has been painting/designing for that team since Day 1.

From what I understand, there were some games going on between Mitch and Troy that lead to them no longer doing business with each other. This is secondhand info so I may be wrong.

Starting 2014 I believe. TLD went FMF and that was probably the start of it.

Yeah a couple years ago they dropped PC from their engine supplier along with Factory Connection and they both seem to be more on par with PC Kawi now in the HP department..... Funny how that worked

Ping stated that Troy thought Mitch was over charging for little items so Troy started charging him more for bike designs and what not and then TLD went with FMF this year.

Yeah I remember reading that too. Sure there is more to it, but it's a shame, those bikes were always on point

If memory serves correct Mitch and Troy go way back so the "it's a shame" component is really this fractured long term relationship IMHO.

Being that they are all racing against each other now, it's probably for the best.

mitch was building sub-par engines for the other teams, they both dropped him as their engine builder and gained a good 3-4hp over mitch's motors. he is not an engine god like everyone makes him out to be.

Getting in too deep financially in the 250F class? No way!Whistling

I wonder how much Pro-Circuit would charge for one of their team race engines? I notice their out the door complete modded heads are in the 7 grand range. And that's just for a single cylinder 250cc cylinder head assembly. Crazy money!

I was under the impression that it was a quality of work issue. Not saying Mitch doesn't know motors, but look at the results/holeshots after the two Honda teams switched motor providers.... PC Kawi wasn't so dominant after that (2-3 years ago)

Ask Mike Brown what he thought of Mitch's motors after the outdoors in 2005...Whistling

The report I just received moments ago was what little money FMF put on the table Mitch actually matched but TLD made the switch based on performance and service.

All I know...is that as soon as PC stopped building motors for Geico and TLD, their bikes either got faster, or the PC bikes got slower.

I'm think the Hondas got faster...and so PC started pushing the envelope on horsepower to match and that is why they were having so many mechanicals the past few years.

Can't say I am a fan of Pro Circuit as a consumer. Terrible service at high prices from less than professional PC employees who really should not be dealing with they paying public.

If you are an insider or media guy, sure they will bend over for you, but as a consumer they treated me very poorly for sub standard service- no matter to them, there are still people lining up for their services, I don't matter.

Listen to the original Pulpcast with Mitch.

He says to this effect:

"Do I build better engines for my team than those other teams who pay for our services? NO. I may decide to put parts in my engine that aren't reliable enough to sell, that push the edge a lot more, sure. I can do that in my engines because I can accept the risk. I cannot however take that risk with a customer's engine, even if it is a competitor."

Solved.

It was just a money issue between Mitch and Troy it seems.

My interaction with Pro Circuit was very good both times I had to call them direct. I talked to the correct people and when I needed a part, they gave me a good deal on what I needed. Better service than most of my local shops here in the 717.
