I know it is way early, but we have been getting afternoon downpours everyday for the last 2 weeks. Forecast doesn't look to change. Kind of sucks cause I want to ride the Friday practice day. But if its raining, as deep as that track looks, I probably won't be able to get around it.

They roll it down with track loader,it is elevated a foot or 2 above surrounding ground to shed water.

I've se it rain all nite then clear.,they rip it and it be epic.

Your biggest worry will be 100 bikes on track in your session.

Southwick in 2011 was the last real wet race, but obviously Southwick is sand so I guess you can't really consider it a proper mudder.

I hope we get a few wet races too, so much more unpredictable.

ditto. Every season needs a good mudder IMO to sake things up. Mud, the great equalizer.

Budd's 09 was ridiculous. Weimer was going through some of the water and the ruts were so ridiculously deep his bike sank to what seemed like his handlebars. It was fun to watch for sure. Southwick 2011 doesn't really count although it was cool to watch while the Hurricane was threatening the area.

Southwick is a place where it sux if it rains too much, doesn't look fun and takes away from the sandy nature of it!

I just like seeing them in different conditions. I've actually appreciated the tracks being a little more hard pack than usual this year. Hopefully now we see a few soft ones, mudders, blah blah blah.

AMA riders need some variety for the MXDN!!

I always change the bike setup for mud

Mud adds a lot of weight to the bike and you. Most collects on the front which is sprung weight, riding on the springs.

What collects on the swingarm is unsprung.

Ideal would be to change fork springs or at least add preload to keep the bike from riding low in the stroke up front which makes the steering faster.

It is hard to do either so i lower the forks all the way in the clamps to slow steering.

I then take 2 or 3 rounds of preload off the rear spring to futher slow the steering.

It makes the bike ride deeper in the stroke on the rear but in deep mud speed is low ,and a stable bike is more important so you dont wear yourself out fighting the bars

This setup stops a lot of the bike wondering around down the rutted straights.

Also,go up a few psi on tire pressur to keep from pinching the tube. You hit unseen edges and rocks when in mud and carrying more weight.

we rode the friday practice before the race last year. Do they have an amateur race there on sunday after the race as well? or is that shitty over crowded practice on friday it? Like someone said its VERY crowded.

I really like the track. We raced it for the first time at the SE regional. Wished I was closer to it as it would be on our regular track list to ride.
