Here's a sport so ignored by mainstream America that is has to pay to be on TV. So what do the promoters hope to achieve by testing the athletes for drug usage (and it's not just PEDs they'll be testing for)? Are they looking to prove that people involved in the sport are pure? Are they trying to prevent the athletes from harming themselves? Are they trying to avoid a congressional hearing into the matter?
Whatever they are trying to do, it apparently has nothing to do with improving the sport for the participants and spectators, and it will have zero effect on bringing more fans to the sport.
But of course, that's just my opinion. Why do you think they're adding this rule, and why now?

In my opinion that is a big advantage.
It's like questioning if they should test for gender in a women's basketball league if there are persistent rumors that some of the players are really male. It's to keep things fair and hopefully keep the playing field level. Period.
Now, if they screw it up like the fuel testing, it will be disastrous. The sport definitely doesn' t need a Floyd Landis/TdF type PED controversy.

Drug testing for the riders, to make sure no one is high or cheating, I'm all for.
If they want to check for HGH, IGF1,IGF2, EPO etc, etc it's gonna cost a fortune.
Who'll pay for all that ? Then if a rider gets a positive and appeals and they get in to a long winded legal battle ? Where's that money coming from?
Have they thought it through ?

Lance was not any smarter than Floyd, there was no EPO test in 99. The daily newspaper, operated by the same company that owns the Tour de France, claimed six urine samples from his 1999 Tour victory contained the banned blood-boosting drug EPO (erythropoietin) – claims strongly denied by Armstrong. The urine test for the presence for EPO was not introduced until the 2000 Giro d’Italia and not fully implemented until 2001.
Cut to today..
AFLD offers Lance Armstrong an analysis of his samples from the 1999 Tour de France to prove his good faith.
France's national anti-doping agency (AFLD) has offered to test allegedly suspect samples taken from Lance Armstrong during the 1999 Tour de France.
We'll see if Lance takes the bait
Besides the AMA can't even do a correct sound test let alone a WADA Drug test.
As far as Floyd goes he just had an idiot for a Dr, You don't draw and store (blood) when you are in a training phase and are taking gear...doh !
If they are banning PED because the good stuff isn't available to everyone, and so it's "unfair" to racers that can't get them or won't take them, then they should say that's why they're banning them. But that's not the public position the promoters are taking. They are taking the position that PEDs are simply "wrong"... but if they're "wrong", why are trainers and athletes using them successfully. If PEDs were ineffective, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
I should state that I am in favor of pro athletes taking PEDs, if that's what they want to do. That's not to say that I would want my children to take them, but that's not the point. Pro athletes make a lot of compromises to achieve greatness in their respective sports, and as adults, that is their decision to make. To me, that's called "freedom." People in the stands are free to slowly kill themselves with overpriced beer and oversugared drinks; the riders on the stadium floor are free to potentially cripple themselves in the whoops... why would we infringe on their freedom to use science to enhance their bodies?
What do Lance Armstrong, Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart all have in common?
Pit Row
Joking, I have no facts to back that up...But, I wonder how much of a roll the trainer plays in this, and how much the rider actually knows about what he is using. Are these enhancement drugs all intravenous? Are they consumed like protein or creatine drinks? Could a rider pull the whole "I thought I was injected with , such and such , simply to re hydrate my muscles..."
It seems way to big for our sport. And I think what was said above is true. The guys who are using the stuff that will really help unfortunately will have the money to hide it.
Personally, I hope the answer is zero. Realistically? There might be some.
Maybe that's part of the reason they're doing it. Currently there's nothing to prevent them from trying just about anyhing in an effort to get faster and stronger.
...no sheet!

Educate yourself, please.
Lance only started to win after he had cancer.
There areno parralels.

Listen if you take HGH or some steroids, you don’t magically become bigger stronger and faster.... it supplements your hard work. just as J law "supplements" before his race and he still wins.
Dude.... please for once in your life.... EDUCATE yourself before making a quick judgment against something you know nothing about.
If your grand pappy had cancer and needed a quick hit of testosterone cyponate to help him recover from chemo, im sure you wouldn’t say... oh no no no please don’t give him a PED, nor would he be winning 450 mains either.... education is wonderful powerful thing
Surely that cant would give you an advantage?
