I have never seen a clutch cover so worn out like that Teddy. Whoever had that bike before you wore the Honda logo that was cast into the side right off. Are you going to race it?

Look forward to the build.

Don't worry about your English, it's better than my French.

I've seen where guys have mounted period correct upside down White Power forks . They came on KTMs in 87. I've never ridden with those forks but I'm told they work well

on Google i can see that yes, but i think stay with stock forks.

they need maybe a spacer to harden spring or diffent oïl, i will see that on the track.

the rear suspenssion will be prepared by evo suspension in Québec .

The stock forks work better than the same period USD forks. Keep the frame the correct Honda RED/Orange, it's worth more that way. I have an 87 CR500 I'm finishing now. Blue CR seat, blue fork gaitors, Renthal bars, etc. my gold rims help the cool factor. If you need stiffer springs they are out there, not hard to find. Having the stock shock rebuilt was going to be tough, so I ordered the piston ring and orings, updated main seal kit, and rebuilt it myself for under $100. Have fun, see it when it's done!

the frame is out today from powder coat, and my engine also .

but the color of my frame is now classic red or flash red,, I don't search to have a color or sticker like stock bike.

you will understand faster when you see the engine Wink , I know some purist wants to see this bike only like they was in 80's, it's not for me.

anyone know if we can swap foot pegs with larger, like past 90's cr or kx ?

fresh powder coated , i wait parts from Honda, cylinder from usa and crank rebuilt.

I managed to find a blue cloth renthal bar pad in good condition Smile

Damm!! Different colour choice! Build it for yourself, not anyone else!

re pegs. I'm 95% sure the '87 has the same peg fitment as the 88. Wide pegs are easily available for the 88.

I agree with your choice to keep the stock forks. 86-88 CR forks are some fo the best forks ever made! It took a LONG time for USD forks to get as good!
3/8/2014 10:27pm
imagine new bikes colours and graphics, on this 87, it's my goal .

today i try a yz pegs , same as yzf, and they can be good with little modifications , thank for your past advice , i just need to choice between yam or cr pegs

most riders like this choice forks, and I agree too , soon i post also my titanium custom made bolts Wink

As far as footpegs go, I bought a set of aftermarket wide seel pegs for a YZ426-450, on Ebay for about $35, they fit my 87 CR500 perfect, bolted right on. Woohoo Engine looks cool, I stripped mine to a natural finish, then added the black Ignition and clutch covers.

Perfect and for the spring? I imagine i need to order to yamaha dealer or honda depend of my brand pegs

Just noticed something after looking at this thread again - Do you know why the frame was originally black? 1987's were originally orange from the factory. Just didn't know if someone before you had done it.

I went for close to the same idea with my triple clamps. I tried to go for the Pro Circuit/ Works Kawi anodized bronze look with the triples and hubs. I'm not happy with the result as they came out a little dark. This project got out of hand and I decided not to have them redone. It's not hideous, just missed the mark for me. I also replaced the bolts with Ti.
I like the finish on the engine . The powder coating really cleaned everything up
5/6/2014 8:26pm
let your triple T 2 week exposed at the sun Wink ,

the powder coat give a nice facelift at this engine, but it wasn't easy to realize a clean job.

i can give you her adress if you need a good powder coat job.

in frame today !, and a kx 500 87 also coming soon
5/27/2014 7:15pm

Wow! Sweet bike! Are you getting white number plate backgrounds and a "Pro-Link" sticker for the swingarm? I think that's all it's missing and those are easy to find on eBay. I have a 1985 CR250, which I will be rebuilding one of these days. Great job!
5/28/2014 8:14pm
thanks man !

I wait my complete graphic kit , i don't wanna ride an oem bike it's why you will see soon the custom kit.

pro link arrived and back grounds will be in blue/ yellow.

it's a sweet bile and the engine is really smooth.

Oh those graphics are awesome with the woody! Do you design and print your own decal kits?

Yes, I will be reconditioning it. I bought the oem 250 Honda wing decals for the shrouds. I need fork boots and probably better plastics. I am just making it look all stock. The engine needs to be rebuilt. I have most of the parts for that already. I just haven't had time to get working on it.
