70's Kami... Doing a History... Need some help!

I can tell you that MANY of the parts from Chaparral, Steen/Alsport, Indian, Gemini (Shin San Tong), Rupp, etc are NOT the same, but SIMILAR. A Fuji Motor is a Fuji motor (if you stay with the same cc size that is cuz 80cc parts wont fit a 100cc motor), but Gemini used the San Tong motors for the most part, Indian used SEVERAL different motors on their bikes, Rupp's used Clintons, Techumpseh (spell??) and Fuji. If you need a triple tree top I MAY have one. Are all your bikes KA100's?? The 80 cc bikes were MUCH more common because they were SO much cheaper to buy. An 80 was in the $350-$450 area, but the KA100's were nearly $800!! I think that is what really did the company in.

I do I think......... I know I do for the KA100..... BUT they are in REALLY poor condition because when they were selling the bikes Kami kept sending "updates" out....... which were nothing more than stickers to put in the book to cover the old info. Unfortunately the "sticky" is long gone and the "updates" are all loose in the books so I decided to just keep them shut and not open them. I am sorry. I just don't want to loose anything out of them.

BTW... My rear sprocket is 40 or 41 teeth (I kinda lost count cuz its really dark in the shed)

Yea all of mine are ka100 they are identical bikes. Could you please post the wiring diagram for them? The wiring is a huge cluster mess in the battery box. How much would you sell the triple tree for?

Here are some pics . So my new battery has a plastic clip but my old doesn't. Do those of you with this bike have a crazy cluster of wires like this? The bike that I'm working on is the one on the left you can see its cleaner than the other two.

You can take the battery to batteries plus and have the ends from the old batteries put onto yours (if you have the old batteries). I know they did it on the one I bought...... but I bought it from them so.......

I know that the indian diets bikes from the same year used this same motor and there are parts on ebay under vintage indian dirtbike parts or something to that effect a google search for the indian parts will bring some stuff up. Rupp and Chaparral also had the same motor.

OK Guys.... I have had this info on here for MONTHS with almost no interest. Now I have you guys getting interested and I have decided to start a Facebook site for Kami's called "Kami Motorcycle Company". Please come and ask to be a friend, I will gladly accept you. Please share any photos you want to share. I am also interested in starting a registry on the Kami's. I currently know of 7.... 5 KA100's, a KA80, and what I believe to be an early MX80. I would like to get VIN's so I can start to put together a VIN to Yr comparison. Any and all private info will be kept that way. Please do NOT list VIN's or your home addresses on the FB site. I want to do any of that through snail mail to keep privacy. I will gladly give you guys my cell # so you can call and we can discuss further if you like.
I sat down a few months ago and wrote up an article on what I have found out about the company so far. I had intention of submitting it to the VJMC (Vintage Jap Motorcycle Club) for their magazine. I sent them an email and asked if they would consider it even though I am not a member since it is about a rare vintage jap bike company. The president of the national org sent me an email back stating it would "not be of interest to his readers", and that "they want to read about 'how to' projects". I have been a collector of antique tractors, gas engines, etc since I was a boy and have written several articles about that hobby. I KNOW that readers of VJMC's magazine would LOVE to read about a rare bike and company, and I told him that. Things got heated from there and to say the least they won't print my article. I am doing the FB thing to try to find more Kami owners. I hope you guys will come check out the FB site.

That's pretty cool. I'll join. I saw a yellow 80cc Kami on ebay not too long ago. So one of the throttle cables on my bike is broke. Where can I get another one?

Many motorcycle shops build cables. That is what I would do.

I am not the most "facebook" knowledgeable. I don't know how you do a friend request. Because I am the one who "built it" it looks different to me than it does to others. If it doesn't work out I will try to make a totally new one and see how it goes.

If you copy and paste this into google something's come up for it. It was on ebay but not anymore so Idk if. It sold or not. It was an mx80. This is the reason I asked if the frames were good or because this one has a break in one of the welds.

Yea that yellow mx80 has a broken frame. I was able to find it on ebay again but it was listed on a few other sites for sale.

Yea it does. Idk why you would cut it though. One of my bikes has a rack like the old rusty one that's froze up. It's pretty cool.

I don't but I can take some tomorrow. I counted the teeth on my rear sprocket and it's 52 like yours. What would be the benefit if putting a smaller one in? More that. Was a replacement rear wheel or something Idk.

A smaller sprocket on the rear will produce a higher top end speed
