I'd like to see it, additionally, I'd like to see the " wooden spoon" style gate selection, and, if I may, the 30 second-girl

butt wiggle should be rightfully returned and, these womanly hips should be encouraged to gyrate, in the name of

humanity and everything holy. Chachacha.

I like the idea for passing points and some other things to kind of spice it up a little bit. Now I'm sure there will be people on here say it's stupid and make the "whats next? gator pits and jumping through rings of fire, too?" comment that has become a cliché for every opposition against changing anything in this sport.

obviously you have to adjust the current points scale so that doesn't happen. I didn't figure it would take long for people to argue that the only reason people want to change it is to allow james to win the championship. get the chip off your shoulder. By they way, in my opinion, if "someone" falls down multiple times and passes you multiple times...maybe you should go faster. And let me throw in the disclaimer that I'm a fan of RV and James both.

Sure. And we'd figure out a way to make things right...

I'll take this opportunity to publicly thank Rup for the sweet tickets at cost (extremely rare in this part of the world) and for the great shots of my kid.

That's pretty damn cool. I don't know rup personally, but he comes across as a pretty good dude on here (which is no small task considering how easy it is to be an asshole on a message board). Good on ya, Rup. Was your kid riding?

I personally don't like the idea, maybe for a race like monster cup but not a regular supercross season. The only thing they should change is making the schedule shorter, incorporate big venues only, and feature double headers. (12 sx 12 mx) with more breaks in between rounds to give the riders and teams rest and to work on things throughout the season more than they do now (like the GP series)

No, she wasn't riding - she's next to me in the second to last shot.

The SX was her second moto related event and she loved it. The first was a JDay winter series race. It was 21 degrees. JDay is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but that particular event was not the best first exposure to moto stuff.

No I don't like the idea. I like it the way it is. I think the point system is one thing they have right.

if you did this....

A guy like Mike Craig would beat a guy like Jeremy McGrath for a championship.

oh, hold on a sec. wait a minute....

that's why you also award points for laps led. Look, no one's saying that you just toss in some passing points to the current system, sprinkle some fairy dust and you're done. But changing some stuff around wouldn't be the worst thing to happen.

If changing the points system (or anything, really) would improve attendance/viewership/sponsorships/$$$, then take a shot. If not, why bother? NASCAR has taken several bold steps to reverse its decline, and to date every initiative has been largely ineffective.

However...if overall SX revenues have increased year-over-year, they ain't touching anything. Change for the sake of change rarely adds value. And when the math is performed, modifying the points system rarely changes the outcome.

My post was a sarcastic, nostalgic nod to Ultracross. In all seriousness, IF the points system were changed, it would be the addition of a "chase" like AX is already using. I think there will be no changes made, because the powers that be realize the cream will rise to the top regardless of whatever spin you put on the series.

Rider A gets a second place start and finishes second. Rider B starts in last and gets 3rd. In this system, who should get more overall points? If it's rider B then that's stupid. That's why points for passing is a dumb idea. It would be rewarding people for getting bad starts. Do you really think Villopoto should earn valuable championship points for passing Wey and Albertson?

once again, that's why you modify the entire points system, not just add in the passing points. If you are only going to add in passing points, then yes, I agree that's a stupid idea. But you modify the whole points system and I think it works.

I don't think there's any modification you can do to make it right.

Rider A starts 2nd and finishes 2nd. Rider B starts 7th and finishes 2nd. Who gets more points? No matter how you change it, it's still not right to reward people for bad starts and punish those who get good ones.

Do you have any propositions where this system would work? How the point system would be?

If you're asking if I have sat down and taken the time to calculate the exact points system, then no, I absolutely have not. However, I do think if you were to make the points a much greater number and not on a linear scale, then I believe it could work. For instance, the gap between 1 & 2 could be much larger than the gap between 2 & 3, so-on and so-on.

I think they should also award points for laps completed.

The problem with complex point systems is you need a Intel Core I7 to keep up with the tallies. See NASCAR.

That's actually the thing I like about it. Maybe this is my inner dork speaking, but that's part of what I love so much about fantasy football and keeping up with the points. It's something fun for fans to keep up with and look at possible outcomes. I can see where that could be a little bit tedious for the passer-by fan, though.
