I got this idea from IWreckALot

"IWreckALot wrote: I wish we could make a list of things a majority of riders and/or fans want fixed and then prioritize that list. I have a feeling the numbering system would be relatively low on that list. Although it's a legit topic for discussion. I just think if we're going to ask for fixes, I'd rather go for a more significant fix."

Post here what you guys think is wrong with the sport and is worthy of change. I'll update the OP with the serious ones...

So far from reading these threads lately I'll start with....

1. Numbering system
2. Rider purse money (250 specifically)
3. Press not asking the hard question (ie. why the hell doesn't Josh Hill thank Ricky in public)
4.
5.
6.

The length of the mains should be based on time, not laps.

Trying to become mainstream has pussified the sport. Now I understand what the true, early Metallica fans were talking about...

But people argue that both ways.

I like grass roots no BS racing as much as the next guy but everyone was pushing for live TV coverage and are still pushing for more money for the little guys and more big teams so top notch talent isn't just roaming the streets of So Cal taking selfies with guns and such.....

I don't wanna see the sport turn all NASCAR either but we can't have it both ways. What is a good compromise?

The schedule and the purse. The schedule is insane and I am willing to bet every rider would like to see it changed up.

May I ask what the main gripes about nascar are?

Personally I think the SX season is too long. The AMA riders do a huge amount of races and barely have an off season before restarting the whole deal all over again in Jan.

How about allowing teams to sell their own memorabilia at the races?

Bring more/different dirt into the stadiums?

Lol...I've played MX VS ATV like twice. I think it's so cool some hard working, risk taking kid is gonna grab the same X Games gold medal that Travis did 2 back flips for. Then again, Travis probably says the same about my medals!

Mainstream has brought us:
Parents trying to get rich through kids
Shorter Motos
Less racing
Retard fans who don't know anything
Glamor boys (everybody used to ride like Bam Bam, but fight afterwards)
Robot interviews (kissing trophy girls and drinking a beer was normal)

OVER GROOMING - Best motorcycles EVER, fittest riders EVER, and MX Sports and the AMA keep overly grooming the race tracks.

TIMED PRACTICE - The only thing more stupid than over grooming. It forces the riders to ride the fast line during practice, thus insuring a one-lined racetrack. They used to place haybales on the insides, or in the good line during practice, to create more lines. Motocross is about racing, not just who can do one lap fast. I would like to see a return to Sunday qualifiers for the Nationals.

I think Nascar is an exception to all good common sense and probably isn't the best model to base things off, because I don't think it's reproducible.

As for what's wrong... MX is perfect, but If I'm not mistaken, I think SX was invented to bring MX to the masses. If the goal is to make it more appealing to everyone, I actually think it needs to be "pussified" some more.

I always kind of dug the head-to-head races at the McGrath Open. It's easy for everyone (chicks) to follow when it's only two laps and there's a clear battle going on. It felt more similar to stick-and-ball sports. Imagine if football plays lasted 20 minutes and there were 10 footballs, because that's how SX is now.

I get what you're saying. I just don't understand how everyone thinks these are the result of trying to be like NASCAR. I don't watch all the NASCAR races but I catch enough and I guess I can agree to disagree. Hell, just last week Casey Mears got dotted in the pits, so I don't know if I buy the "pussification" angle. They show the whole races (all 3-4 hours of it). They have huge corporate sponsors. They have tons of fans that I would argue are actually somewhat educated about their favorite drivers. They have fans that camp out for a week before the race. Last place still makes an awesome living. I honestly don't see the downside. I can see the gripe that there will be more jackasses in fox shirts and monster hats, but at the same time...that makes it easier for sponsors to make money and pay riders. I'm not saying you're like this Ridge, but I honestly think there are moto guys out there that bag on NASCAR out of jealousy of how successful NASCAR has become.

everything from mx to sx is so f'n expensive...
whenever sx is on foxsprts2..its a kind of a hassel to watch for some reason.
why go from georgia to indy to flordia to Michigan? why not go flordia to Georgia to indy to Michigan...it would save a lot of fuel costs...
have 1 main event in motorcross..
start a open class...

Pointing out of the 250 class. I just feel the days of it being a feeder series are over.

I'm over the attempts to go mainstream as well...the ONLY way that benefits me at all is that I get to watch the races live on TV...but this isn't 1980 anymore, we aren't going to have to wait two months for Cycle News to go to print to get race results...we have the internet...just because the TV package goes away doesn't mean the internet coverage will, so I can live without the TV package, and I would gladly trade it for the day that when I saw someone wearing a Fox shirt at the mall, I knew for a fact that they actually rode!

Oh, and I think Feld has to go...its time supercross is promoted as a professional motorsport rather than a "show". And that won't happen until Feld is gone...

More outdoors and less Supercross. I only make it about 9 races in before I get burned out on the boring indoor stuff. I love the speed of the nationals.
