I'm interested in a 2011 Yz250 an individual is selling. His asking price is 4000. Should I make him an offer of 3800? Or is he already asking for a fair price?

Check KBB.com and NADA to get an idea of what it's worth. Then make an offer based off of condition and any parts that it needs.

He had the cylinder re-plated, new piston, rings, reeds, and crank. About 15-20 hours since the rebuild. Has a pro-circuit exhaust.

Go look at it, ride it, click it thru some gears, brakes, look it over, if u havent already, be prepared to hand over cash before riding, to many stolen bike stories. make an offer, cash rules, get title, manual , write out a bill of sale, and if you get it go have some fun. price sounds fair.i would not buy a bike without a mso or title. , my opinion..as said above check kbb, nada, ebay, you get an idea what its worth.and get insurance on it.

Ask him how much he wants for the boat. I want the boat.

So if its had the cylinder re-plated and crank replaced and its a 2011 model...is that reasonable wear and tear to ask $4000 for?

I would think the rest of the bike would feel worn out if it hasnt had the same amount of repair done to it, i.e. suspension, cables. brakes etc..

I'd ask him about the motor work and see if he knows what he's talking about/why it happened. I sold my 09 for $3100 with a ton of extra parts. My original cylinder was also in great shape.
It could be worth close to 4k but even if that is an ok deal I'd offer him a few hundred under his asking price if you like the bike. Good luck

Did he put in a stroker crank or something? Seems odd to replace the crank on a bike that's 3 years old. I make sure it has not been rode to shit!

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm thinking he raced it and he just wanted to freshen up the internals. It does however sound weird that he replaced the crank; maybe he ran it hot and locked it up. I'm going to check it out and offer him 3700. I'll ask him about his repairs.

On the other hand, NADA says the bike is worth 4700. I added the aftermarket exhaust to the value on nada. So...

In reality, the nada "values" never mean dick with mx bikes.

I would be under the impression that it seized or blew it up badly. All that work points to he seized it.

Most people who are selling something usually put more on it than they're expecting to get because they expect to be knocked down. Offer him $3500, cost you nothing to ask and he would be expecting it.

I would ask to see receipts for the engine work. I would also want the story about why the work was done. Also see how clean it is in person. If he has the receipts and the bike is clean I think 4,000 is a reasonable price. Of course I would offer a bit less to see what he says, 3500 is a fair offer. If he wont budge on his price I think 4,000 is fair.

Depends on geography. Some areas of the country that 2011 in any condition brings $4000, other parts $3500, etc.
