Just wanted to check up on you TM to see how your recovery was coming along. Hopefully, your starting your training program for the Pala track day you have coming up in the near future. I finished a cycle with 75% strength Sutent meds without side affects so tomorrow I start 100% with hopes that enough tumor shrinks that my bad kidney could possibly be removed. Doc said that`s my best bet on managing this stuff but, if the surgery is too risky there`s other alternatives that have proven successful so I guess by the end of May I`ll find out. God Bless you brother and I`ll keep sending the prayers from my end.

So I'm kind of at a stand still right now as one of the side effects I acquired was blood clots. I have something called a portacath. It sits on my chest just under the skin. It's excellent for when you get chemo as many of the chemicals are so toxic they damage the veins if you were to just use an IV. So the portacath, the lines are too small for the infusion of stem cells and some times you need to get multiple chemos at the same time that are not compatible, so they installed something called an apheresis port. The apheresis has larger tubes and was on the other side of my chest. Well the tubes are fed through a large vein until it's less than an inch from your heart. Having a foreign object inside me caused me to get a blood clot. They then took that one out and installed a pic line in my arm that also has a tube that is fed through a vein to a very short distance to the heart. 3 days after the install of that I had another blood clot. Due to the location of the clots (both are a direct path to the heart) the doc doesn't want me to do anything or lift anything. At first she gave a limit of 3 lbs. I negotiated up to 8 lbs, I complained at 3 lbs I couldn't even take the milk out from the frig. Meanwhile, I get 2 shots a day for blood thinning. That also is a problem in that if I hit my head I could get a brain bleed. So I have to wait and see how long it takes for the clots to be gone. Regardless of those, I still get winded if I walk too fast or go up a flight of stairs too fast.
So do I understand correctly that your cancer is isolated to one kidney? Why do they change the strength of the meds? Is it so toxic they need to see how you react? Well that's a good sign that you are able to handle lower dose Sutent. Prayers are going right back at you brother that this works. Believe me when I tell you I know exactly what you're going through right now.

Hope you guys get feeling soon, stay strong.
Hey there TM, sorry to hear about the complications you`re having to go through but, it looks like the Physicians have it under control and I know it sucks but, hang in there and do what they say. In my situation the Cancer started in my right kidney but by the time it was discovered my chest cavity was lined with several tumors from my neck to my pelvic area. They thought at first I had Lymphoma because of the formation but all the biopsies came back as Renal Cell Carcinoma. I think side affects from the medicine must be pretty bad according to the pharmacist but I was fortunate and didn`t suffer any so the Doc bumped me up 3 weeks on the schedule. The plan is if the meds shrink enough of the 3 tumors around my kidney it might be possible to remove it without too much risk. I should know in about 9 weeks if the meds worked according to plan. If it gets taken out the chances increase for the rest of the cancer in my body to be more successfully managed. A girl I grew up with had damn near the same thing I did and she`s doing ok and that was 6 years ago so I feel pretty good about getting through this and getting back to normal. You keep your chin up ToolMaker and I`ll make sure plenty of prayers head your way to speed up the process in you getting strong enough for the Pala visit.

MX, sounds like you're having to deal with a lot worse stuff than I am right now. That's excellent news that you're tolerating the meds well with little to no side effects. I hear a lot of advertising about "proton therapy" that they can attack tumors withing a millimeter without damaging the surrounding tissue, is this something is a possibility for you?

TM, So far the x-tra strength dose hasn`t caused any problems and I actually feel a little better each day with more energy than tired and lethargic as I was told I`d feel. That Proton Therapy sounds like something that might be possible in the future if the meds don`t work as planned. Two of the tumors on my kidney are covering blood vessels that the Surgeon says have to be easy to see and work on before any surgery can be done without serious risk of coming apart. If the meds don`t work I`m sure I`ll have tons of questions about plan B and any other procedures that have been successful in managing this mess. I just hope that me feeling so much better is due to the meds doing their job to help me get rid of this stuff. Hope you`re doing better and listening to the Docs and doing what they say. More prayers headed your way and be blessed TM.
