Had an 03 and an 06, thought the 03 motor was better. But honestly, they were both not that fast compared to a YZ or a SX.
Great handling and absolutly fun to ride, but very very bad quality. Had to change gears after 1,5 years each, crank and rod are junk (bearings are making grooves in the crank), all bearings outside the motor are junk too. Greased them with very godd waterproof grease which got my YZ bearings strong for 5 years, but on both RMs they were done after 2years. My friend has all the same problems, and I'm head of maintenance on our facility of a huge german company. So I know my stuff.
If you only want a RM, get it. But there are better 2strokes out there if you're looking at reliabilty too...

Here is my 2004 RM250. I've been very happy with it so far. I don't get to ride it as much as I would like, but so far I haven't had any major issues with it.

Sorry, they're not bad quality...pure myth. I will say the stock handlebars suck, and the bolts suck balls and strip easy...so change them out!!!! Everyone gets a bad bike now and again. They're the most reliable bikes I've owned, and I've owned bikes since the early 80's. That's including riding red for 9 years! The mid to late 80's were the years that the quality was subpar, hell even my '91 RM125 has been crazy reliable.

I have to agree with Malachi. The only weak spot on my Suzukis has been the clutch basket and inner hub. Other than that, every one I have owned has been absolutely flawless, durable and reliable. Then again, I'm kind of a maintenance freak. I grease my linkage and change my suspension oil every 20 hours. Hell, I even have an inch pound torque wrench that I use just for body work and seat bolts. I'm a bit OCD.

So you grease your linkage once and you expect them to last 5 years? If you want to say some of the hardware is junk i'll give you that. Its easily replaceable and no big deal you learn how to deal with it, no superman torque on fasteners etc. i have been around Suzukis and the motors are solid. Maybe yours was a problem but i'm guessing owner/operator error.

this was my '06. it was a kick to ride... as long as you were on top of things. it was a rocket from the mid range up and turned on a dime, but it was a little busy down long, rough high speed straights. fun as hell but wouldn't keep my '13 ktm 300sx in sight!!!

Where do you read that I only greased them once?
Even with regular intervals they gave up, but with the same grease and intervals the YZ lasted more then twice as long. And for all the other stuff, you can have your own experiences. I have mine, and like I said I had 2 RMs and absolutly no problems like that on my YZ or SX! If you read everything, you may noticed that my friend has the same problems on his 09! Have you guys split your motors and checked the crank where the bearings sit or checked the gears? I even have the worn gears at home if someone needs them...

But as long as everyone is happy with his bike, all is fine!

Greasing the bearings internally is not a good idea...these bearings are lubed with tranny oil during operation and if grease is packed in them, tranny oil cannot effectively lubricate the bearing. I always oil all bearings at time of bearing change and they have held up well on my '96 RM 250....my 2 cents worth. Lol

I had a 2000 RM and a very good racer in our area said the engine was awesome, and then with the 2001 they screwed up big time. That model was so slow. Then he said they fixed some things with the 2002.
