In my opinion your are not " restoring" a bike unless you touch everything on it and replace most of that, otherwise you are not "restoring" you are "sprucing" it up.

If you start replacing parts and refinishing them it's a restoration.
It may only be a partial one, but unless you've only changed consumable items (ie, tyres, pads, chain, sprockets) you've been restoring it.

Frame strip and repaint / powder, and get inside the motor, and you're looking at a full resto.

All just my opinion of course.

I didn't restore my 82 RM 250 I just cleaned it up and made it race worthy.

There's no concrete definition.

I consider the above RM to have had a 'minor cosmetic and mechanical restoration'. Technically, any action that improves the condition of an old item back towards its original state is 'restoration' - even if it's just replacing decals and painting a few parts.

IMHO 'unrestored' means an item that is essentially as it was off the showroom floor, with original paint, graphics, parts and so on.

Restored to factory, I would not ride it I would display it. Unrestored I would ride and race and not feel bad if it gets banged up. I would call mine refreshed.
