Stewart was talking, in his post-race interview, about wanting to break win records now that the "championship is out of reach"...but is it really? Some of you guys are much better about adding points and that sort of thing than I am...so, is James really completely out of the range of winning the championship with as many races as are left coming into Las Vegas?

Yes. Easy answer.

Unless the unthinkable happens.

Mathematically? No. Realistically? Yes. He's 49 points behind RV. If Stewart won the next 2 races and RV DNF'd both, he would only be +1 on RV. That's not even taking Dungey into consideration.

RV would need to have at least one race where he finished dead last. That would probably mean going out in the first corner. Not that that couldn't happen, but it's not likely. And even if that happened RV would need to have horrible results for the rest of the season. That isn't likely either.

The thing is anything can happen. RV could have a DNF and then one race where he gets 14th for whatever reason. JS would have to win most of the races and finish a head of RV in the ones he didn't win. Now as far as RD goes, JS can catch him. If JS wins 3 of the next few rounds and RD gets 3rd, That's 15 points right there. RD is up like 19 on JS.

If Stewart were to win the last 6 races he would finish with 332 points.

RV could finish 5th 3 times and 4th 3 times and still end up with 333 points and the title.

Might be good for him in the long run. Just to focus totally on one race at time ,from the start to finish ,vs the background distraction of the championship.

I thought it was pretty interesting on the Post-Show when James said the championship was over and Paul Lindsay jumped on him and said something like 'You never know. You have 6 or 7 rounds left The unthinkable can happen. It has before'. I just thought it was a good moment for Paul to keep James motivated.
I also have to laugh how at the beginning of the season RC made a comment about James and CR22 'to give it up' because they wouldn't catch his win number.

If James keeps winning mains and Seattle is a mudder. Then JS7's chances got ALOT better.
Regardless, I'm glad to see James riding to his potential. Another year, and we won't get to watch him any more.

Use Hypothetical scenario. If Ryan Viliopoto had a major crash and injured himself to the point he had a DNF this weekend in Toronto and had to set out the rest of the supercross season similar to the 2012 Seattle Supercross injury where he injured he leg and missed the rest of the supercross season and lets say Ryan Dungy had a DNF, a last place finish, and maybe missed a race do to a injury for the next three races. And Ken Roczen had a string bad luck for the next 3 races (i.e. DNF, DNQ, last place finish, injury) James would have a chance. But it would require that he would have to win at least 3 races in a row for him to get back in the chase. It not impossible because anything could happen, However, he has done it before, back in 2009 He came back from almost 17th in the points to win the 2009 supercross championship. But the completion wasn’t as strong back then as it is now.

First off, JS is a head of KR in points & is 19 behind RD. He dosent need RD to have a DNF. You act like RD is 50 points up on him also? If JS rides the rest of the races with out crashing he can be 2nd in points by Vegas. Also it would of been harder to come back in 2009 with less people who can win.

How come most guys act like they don't care about records and that they just happen. It has always seemed to have been Bubbas priority. I was watching 2010 "stars of supercross" and JS was talking about wins record, but not four straight championship record.
Seems like he has cared more about that wins record than championships. I wonder if he has a lords of London on it.
Is he going for second place in SX wins or does he think he will pass MC or is he talking total wins?

No need to get defensive!! I have been pulling for James since 2006 during the JS #7 & #259 & RC days! Remember Ken Roczen is still a threat!

Look at the current point Standing! Regarding 2009 you are repeating what I just said!!!

CURRENT AMA 450 SUPERCROSS POINTS STANDINGS
(After 11 of 17 rounds)
1. Ryan Villopoto..........231
2. Ryan Dungey............201
3. James Stewart..........182
4. Ken Roczen..............181
5. Justin Brayton............155
6. Andrew Short............143
7. Justin Barcia..............134
8. Broc Tickle.................126
9. Wil Hahn....................115
10. Chad Reed...............111

ASK ANY OF THE TOP RIDERS AND THEY WILL TELL YOU CAN'T SLEEP ON ANY OF THE COMPLETION THIS SEASON!!!

Anything can happen and if something were to happen to RV1, I would bet on JS7 winning the championship. He is riding like
a champion and he will win several more this year if he can keep it on 2 wheels. Watch out for KROC now that he is pretty
much out of the championship, Will he go into full race win mode or ride safe to insure he is healthy for outdoors.

What I see from your posts everyone is saving up for something and that`s the only reason why Stewart is winning. Am I right?

My money would be with Dungey based on statistics. Dungey has averaged one DNF the last few years in indoors and out. He hasn't had more than one and he already has his one out of the way. Dungey has also placed second the last few years. My opinion is that JS has something missing from his program that would keep him from winning the title if catastrophe strikes RV. I think RV is going to take this one however. I do enjoy watching JS race and would like to see him win another title but if we're putting figurative money on the line, my money is on RD taking second to RV again or winning the championship.

I agree with this man here^. As for RV and the championship, anything can happen. This is supercross, ever heard of a crash with a injury attached?

It ain't over 'til it's over. I was always taught to race through the finish line, don't slow down until you've crossed first base, etc...
I think it's a total cop-out to give up before it's over.
This is MX. Anything can happen.

As far a Reed and Stewart beating RC's indoor win record, it's totally within reach for both of them. Not easy, but definitely within reach.

No, that is not what I meant. I was answering the OP's question and commenting how good JS7 is riding when he keeps it
on 2 wheels. Kongols are you a half empty personality. JS7 is riding really good this year and he could still win the championship if the cards fall in place. Where you are in the Championship will affect how you attack each race and during the
race you will make decisions based on where you are in that race. Not taking anything away from JS7's win. I will give you an
example that you might be able to understand. In 2009 in Vegas JS7 was the fastest guy that year and had the championship
in the bag if he finished like top 6 and at the start of the race RV2 was hot on his tail and JS7 made a bobble and RV2 passed him and went on to win his 2nd SX race. Could JS7 chased after him and beat him, probably, but he let him go and stayed ahead of CR22 for half the race and then let him go and finished 3rd and won the championship. Could he have beat CR22
that day, probably, but the championship was more important than the win. In 2005 and 2006 RC didn't win a single race
after Daytona and CR22 and JS7 won most of those races, did RC suddenly get slower or the other riders get suddenly faster
or was RC in Championship mode. I hope this clears it up for you, if not that's all I got. Go RV1Woohoo

Now you`re comparing round 11 to Vegas. RV has won 9 out of 12 races he`s raced last two years after Daytona. He never backs off after Daytona.

Well, what happened last year? RV had the c'ship well under control but out of the last 9 races, he won 7 of them!Blink I guess he was in "c'ship mode" then to, huh? Geezus, those are some bright green colored glasses you''re looking through!Wink

And also in 2012, He won 4 straight mains after Daytona and then went out with the knee injury at Seattle!

Sorry Uncle, but your "c'ship mode" theory doesn't support his past actions and intentions.

We've got more than a few opportunities for things to change.

All I know is James seems to be happy and he's "Confident".

The rest is a matter of time...and 49 points.

I tend to agree with this. He's never seemed to be willing to back it down in the past. But...

I would think that with every title won consecutively, he would want to be more and more careful to secure it and not throw it away. Four in a row is a really big fuckin deal, and it could be affecting him subconsciously more than he or anyone knows.

Also, at the end of '13, Davi and Ryan were battling hard and racing fast. RV couldn't let them have any confidence going into outdoors, esp. Dungey, because he thought RD might be a threat there. This year, knowing what Dungey is capable of outdoors against him, and with Dungey's confidence presumably not great at the moment (although he may bounce back before the end), he doesn't have to worry about demoralizing anyone.

If my Aunt had a penis, she would be my Uncle. Then Stewart wins the title.
