going to Daytona SX for the first time and wanted to know where you guys thought was the best place to sit? (grandstands--on track)

Also wanted to know if anyone knows the pit area process, as this is not a Feld event and there will be no Monster pit party. can fans still get in? is there an additional charge? is industry only?

I have found the best view is from the track but it does get uncomfortable and a bit crowded just to warn you. I have never had a problem just walking into the pits, but all I do is just walk down the track from the place I am watching. Not sure if its difficult if you don't buy the track seating. Im looking forward to the racing this year, it should be good!

There are some really good seating options at Daytona. First, you can buy a general admittance ticket and buy the track side upgrade for like $15-$20. You can then watch from the tri-oval area standing on the track. It gets crowded, but you are literally track side. My buddy's son actually got nudged by RC's front tire when he crashed in the whoops a few years back.

Another option is to buy reserved grandstand seating. I like this option because I don't dig standing all night with my feet on a 30 degree downward angle no matter how cool it is being close to the track.

Finally, I always purchase the Daytona SX Cycle Club ticket for the SX ONLY option (otherwise you'll end up buying a combo ticket for the Daytona 200 for about a hundred bucks more).

With the Cycle Club ticket, you get food, deserts, two or three drink tickets for beer, unlimited soft drinks/water, snacks. This is all inside a suite. Your seating, however, is outside in front of the suite, which is all the way up in front of the suites in the Sprint tower that are in the picture you posted, just under the press area in the seats along the upper edge.

I think it was about $175 per ticket for this option.

As far as the pits go, they are open most of the day to the public and were located on the DIS track to the left of the tri-oval. I seem to remember them changing it last year? I don't really remember. Ah yes! They moved them in closer to the traditional NASCAR garages.

Anyway, that's about all I've got.

The only year I have sat in the grandstands was at the 2008 round when it POURED. Every other time I was trackside. I prefer to be trackside only because this is the only time of year I see pro racing. So I want to be as close as possible. And the pits are much closer like last year in garages as TB said. Overall, I dont really think there is a bad seat just because of the lay out.

I must be in the minority. But I have been going to Daytona for 35 years, and have sat about every where. I prefer the cheap general admission seats in the Sprint tower. Your not standing all night, your not looking through a fence at the track either. Daytona being the biggest track, spread out the furthest, you can sit low in the sprint tower and see all the racing over the entire track. I prefer this for sure.

The pits are open during the day.

Who's going this year? I'm looking forward to meeting Gibby in person.

After some advice for seats at daytona supercross please...we are travelling from the UK and tying it in with a holiday in Orlando so will be hiring a car and driving from there...is this pretty straight forward for starters?? There will be 4 adults and 4 children and one infant...we plan on spending the full day there.. What would be the best seats and is trackside worth paying for...any advice is appreciated. Thanks

The big one is don't bring an infant to a sporting event, hire a sitter. Track side is only good if you don't want to be able to see the whole track and stand at an 18 degree angle the whole time.

The place will be completely new this year. With wifi and all kind of crap. Daytona rising. I don't think there will be a bad seat in the house.

They do look gd seats...would anyone recommend paying for the reserved seats or doing just general admission? Has anyone taken a 14 month old along to sx before? He is used to motorbike as it's what we spend our wkends doing in the UK? Don't really want to leave him so if people don't recommend then I guess I will just have to miss out!! I thought motor and supercross was a family sport in America??

Thanks

It's more of a comfort perspective, it can be a toss up with weather at Daytona. One year it can be scorching hot, one year it can be a torrential downpour and one year it can be bitterly cold. To each his own though, I always had a hard time grasping purchasing the extra ticket, knowing that an infant has no idea what is going on and wont remember any of it. Have a great time regardless.

Yes, general admission is the best IMO. Seating is first come first serve, I would recommend sitting in one of the tower sections, just arrive at your desired seats about 6:30 and you should be good. Parking for the race is easy as the speedway is right off of the interstate. A good lesson I learned this past year is if possible, park as far away from the entrance as possible, otherwise trying to exit will be a nightmare (DIS had no one directing traffic exiting) people were just cutting each other off left and right. International runs from the beach to the interstate so you should have no problems finding the speedway if you are staying off of International.

I would get reserved seats so you know where you will be sitting and what kind of view you can expect. Traffic can be bad because its bike week as well so just give yourself plenty of time to get to the stadium. If you're fanatics then you may want to show up early to watch practice and stay the whole day and into the night.

They are in the process of renovating the seating/stadium so it should be all new for this year as work was underway this year. You can also bring coolers in which is nice if you plan on drinking.

General admission. Buy them from scalper for $5 after the heats start. There will be plenty !

I've been to Daytona about 20+ times.

The race is now the first weekend of bike week and it's pretty dead. Traffic isn't really an issue except for around Main Street.

General Admission is absolutely the way to go if you want to see the whole track. Just take your seats about 30-45mins before start of the race so you can all sit together.

Trackside is horrible for watching the race. But... It's unreal to go down there to watch practice. It's amazing how hard they hit whoops and jump faces and how fast they're going. Trackside really puts it in perspective.

The pits are open so getting there early is worth it. They're is also a vendor area outside the stadium. The Honda tent is cool. But the rest is chopper crap. They're are some cool looking bikes if that's your thing.

I have been 3 of the last 5 years. Hear is what I would do.
1) Buy reserved seating. Any are good. You will want to go sit down throughout the day and it's nice to have a seat that is yours.
2) Buy track side admission. It's only $15 more. This will get you into the pits also. I go to the pits first around 12:30. Since it's the NASCAR pits it's pretty different but if you time it right you can see a lot of the guys going out for their first practice sessions. I got some really good shots this past year.
3) I parked in the Daytona infield. I was really close to the entrance. A lot less walking. I would leave a hour or hour and half after the race. Don't be in a hurry. It's tough getting out.
4) Bring an unbrella, hoodie and even a jacket and sun screen. last year it was nice during the day but when night came the tempeture dropped at least 15 degrees. I was cold. Be prepared.

Like I said I go to the pits first since I parked in the infield. From the infield parking you go right past the pits once you go through the entrance. Do the pit thing for 30 minutes and then I would head out to the track. It's about a 10 minute walk. At the track side you can really get pretty close to the action. It's really good for some pictures as they usually have a whoop section, finish line jump and a big tripple on the track side. I usually watch the practices for a while and then I go sit up in my seat for a rest and get lunch at the stadium consessions. Then I usually go backdown for the next practices track side. You can also go back to the pits at any time during the day until about 4:30 or so. It's a long walk so I usually only do the pits when I first come in. After the race is over they let you go onto the track. It's amazing to see how rough that track and deep the ruts get. Then you can go to the winners podium. It's the best SX to go to in my opinion and I live in Southern California so I have plenty of Sx races to go to if I want. Hope this helps. Enjoy, you will not be dissapointed.
