Why dont we drop all the speculations and assume that Chad is determined to ride this weekend because he is motivated. Because he feels it is possible, and he has the mindset of a champion that does not want to give up due to injuries. He has experienced some serious injuries, but Chads been around longer than most so I'm sure he knows when he can or can't ride a motorcycle safely. If it is too serious of an injury, I'm positive he will make the right decision to not ride and risk his health even more. With that being said though, he is 32 years old and more determined than ever to continue to ride and race for that championship. I wish Chad nothing but the best, and I hope he makes the right decision when the time comes.

People are focusing on Reed and not James win, and not surprisingly some of the fanboys have their panties in a wad. Classic.

James looks great. They should be celebrating, not whining about all the Reed speculation. James could go on a run and get right back in the title hunt. With Reed likely out of it, I'm pulling for James.

I hate it for him, he was doing so well. He will be missed out there this year for sure.

I can see it now. Reed races with F'd up body and Barcia runs him wide and he falls over on his shoulder. Then everyone wants to lynch Barcia when Reed shouldn't have been out there anyway Laughing

And that waistband looks pretty conspicuous. Is Ethica underoos a Reed-sponsor? They should be, cause I want some now.

Whoa!

I would expect that attitude from Chad, but not Ellie Laughing

I think if there is any way Chad feels he can get points without making his injuries worse he will be on the track Saturday.

Uh huh...he couldn't ride w a broken scapula. Im guessing its very minor fracturers that unless he takes the exact same fall are not in danger of getting worse. If its just pain...Chad will go for it. If its broken...really broken he CANT race...no one could.

You just love stirring up crap don't you. What reason would he have to lie about it, to prove to all the vitards how "core" he is? Give me a break, this whole thread is a disaster honestly.

I have a feeling he's not feeling as hurt as he is. When he said he was not confident in the first hospital and was going to another, I got the feeling the doctors told him something that he didn't want to hear.

When you look at it realistically, Chad has posted a few things on social media and people here have completely blown a lot of it out of proportion. Did he put up some interesting stuff, ya. Did he post his stuff directly to vital to cause a meltdown, no. One was just the reaction of another. I would assume he enjoyed the ensuing mess it created though.Wink

Chad went to a trauma center initially. They basically told him "youll live "and took care of the criticals coming in.

I wouldnt question the injuries...Im sure they are what they are and it sucks no doubt.. It sucks when it happens to anyone, not just Reed.... But one of things that kind of bugs me is how some folks almost act like Reed is the only guy to crash, crash hard and get up to ride another day.....Lots of dudes go ride with broken this or that, or a plated this or that.... Heck, Josh Hill is out there again with the plate in the collar bone......I wish the dude well and its a bummer this may change his hopes on the season, but the " I am invincible I'll race with a broken anything" approach is a little over the top.....All these dudes are tough SOB's and all of them (well most) will line up even if they are banged up.....Some just may play off it more than others....maybe since its Reed it just gets more attention, but some of the Reed is not human talk is a little over kill....

again, hope the guy heals up and is back in action soon.......

I'm with Mathes on the webcast linked above. Reed did it all on his own, nobody to blame but himself. Wey had nothing to do with the incident.

JT said that none of the fractures were displaced. Internet cereal box doctor time...

The scapula is very well stabilized by all the muscles and tendons around it. I think Chad raced with a broken blade before. The T1 fracture is probably not an axial compression fracture. He hit to the side. A rib tubercle probably fractured a transverse process (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transverse_processes). That is also well stabilized by soft tissue. The real concern is actually mundane...and that is the collarbone...and soft tissue damage in the shoulder. If the collarbone is broken through and through, but not displaced..it could get displaced pretty quick just through the normal upper body loads of riding. Getting it solidly plated seems like a must. Hill was riding with a plated cbone...2 weeks post.

My guess is he tries....takes a few laps...and comes in. Then comes back in 2-3 weeks after the bones have gotten sticky.

As for riding at the pro SX level with a plated clavicle before the bones heal...there is a high probability he will have to have it re-plated and have the bones scraped later. Dr. Mark Sanders wrote a very nice recommendation to over at TT relating to riding too soon with a plated clavicle because it 'feels' 100% (http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/623130-attention-broken-collarbone-pat…)
