Seems the only logical explanation for racing with that list of injuries? Millions on the line for a top 5? I know he's a badass, but damn, he's also a father.

Don't know of Reed actually bet on himself, but on top of being a father he is a racer and he has invested (not bet) millions on his team to race at this level. Still, I am in agreement that he should take time to heal properly and kill 'em in the outdoors.

I do think he has some sort of huge bonus contingent on how he places for the whole season. I posted this in the other Reed thread.

I don't know anything for sure but I have a strong feeling that Reed might have some sponsor stipulations or another insurance policy on this season and he wants to fight for it. . .

I personally think he'll try practice and then throw in the towel. Reed's a tough bastard and I hope he can race but I think we all might be saying something different if he injures himself even further next week.

How exactly would one of these "insurance policies" work? Does he put down some money up front and if he wins they give him back double or triple what he put down or what? I honestly don't know but am curious about it.

I`m not sure but from what I understand if you bet on yourself winning championship you put 150 grand and if you win you get a million. Or something like that.

Yeah, he took Lloyd's of London for some serious bank with his last title. Smile
They got wise to it .
Pretty sure they raised the premium bar.

here is article on it. I think there are more requirements, not just winning it all. Something like at least top 3 or 5 in every race (or some position, not sure), race every race, and probably more.

I am not sure how these insurance policies work either and wonder do any of the other guys do it?

Getting hurt sucks, but its a part of racing and Reed isnt the first person to get hurt.. I am sure its a dissapointment for the Two Two folks, but its not like the title is being handed out next week. there is along way to go and trying to make something happen with these injuries could open the door for something worse.....

Anyone who lines up on the starting gate is betting on themselves.
