Hahaha no need to worry, I will be making my millions by other means so the byproduct of that is cool, reasonably priced conversion mounts for whoever wants to follow in my footsteps and do their own conversion Wink

Man, for thousands of $ less you will have a bike that is basically what you could buy from service Honda. Totally cool

Yeah AJ, I thought that was kinda dumb too. I'm sure 99% of guys aren't buying service bikes just to have a two stroke with newer shape plastics.

Oh c'mon guys, obviously not a Service Honda product, or purpose built bike. I was gonna leave a disclaimer on my post but thought everyone would read between the lines. Still a neat bike when he gets done.

sub'd, cant wait to see your bracket ideas... I always wondered what it'd take to make the newer style sub frame work on the 02-07 CR's. I think those newer style Service Hondas of AJ's look trick as hell.. unfortunately have to settle for the next best thing when living on a tight budget!

Couldn't have said it better myself!

And AJ, I'm going to try to stop in the shop sometime this week or next... what time are you there til? I want to see what you guys do for the fuel pump-to-petcock conversion on the bottom of the tank and also how you fit the airbox to the carb

New stock subframe arrived yesterday, and come to find out since I got it on eBay and opened a Bill Me Later account I got $10 off my first purchase, so it only ended up costing me $35! Needless to say I spent the evening putting the bike all back together with all the stock '03 parts but with the addition of the good rear fender and the shorty silencer. I also took the time to drill the extra holes in the CRF front fender and get that mounted at the proper angle, then mounted up the Cycra CRF Stadium front number plate. I have to get 2 new sub frame bolts because they got bent from the crash but I plan to do that after work and then go riding for a bit. I'll try to get some pics of the front CRF stuff all bolted up

Some black rims and geico graphics should be the next step if the guy want to go from goosebumps to heaven mode. Smile

Unfortunately the only progress is that I've ridden it a few times and the last time I rode it the bottom rod bearing went out on me Sad So now I'm just trying to rebuild the motor as economically as I can. Doing a bit of research I've read that quite a few people are saying the CRs tend to take a slightly higher premix ratio (like 28:1) instead of the standard 32:1, but also that running it that way inherently leans out the fuel/air ratio (more oil means less fuel for the same amount of air, making it lean) so you need to richen the carb settings a bit when running the higher oil ratio. I've run it at 32:1 the whole time I've had it and it's always run strong, so I'm not quite sure what could've caused the failure of the rod bearing, although after taking the motor apart I did find that it has a Hot Rods rod in it, so there's a chance the crank is a Hot Rods brand as well. Not sure if the aftermarket parts would have less of a lifespan or quality than OEM parts but regardless, I'm having to rebuild it now. Oh well, I guess it comes with the territory of buying a used bike :-/

Needless to say, the conversion is on hold til I get it back running

and on top of that, did you end up getting the measurements for brackets? IF so, feel free to PM me. I will be starting a similar project on my 02 250. I work as a machinist and probably could fab something up in my spare time.

The easiest way to tie it all together is going to be with a custom subframe. I can make the first version of this by using the pieces of my old/broken CR subframe welded into the new CRF subframe. But to make a 'kit' that allows anybody to just bolt together a conversion like this will require the purchase of a custom conversion subframe, along with the other adapter plates and brackets and stuff. I wish there was a way to make a few brackets that would attach to the CRF subframe and then the CR chassis but there's no real way to do it that would give it the structural integrity that it needs.

AJ from Service Honda said earlier in the thread that he'd be down for helping me out (since he literally lives less than 5 miles from me) so since I don't have the ability to weld aluminum (only have a MIG right now, and don't have a special aluminum gun) I'm thinking I will talk to him and see what all he can help me with to get the conversion completed, and also if he'd like to go in on making a bolt-on adaptation kit with me, of which he could fabricate the subframe and certain other parts based off my prototyopes and then sell through the shop.

As far as the bike goes, I split the cases and completely rebuilt the motor myself back in September, but 2 weeks after getting it rebuilt I partially tore my ACL in a crash at Wildcat Creek MX in Rossville, IN. So needless to say that ended my season and I'm just working to rebuild the strength in my leg/knee until I can ride again in a few months. I would like to have the conversion done before next season but my wife and I just had our 2nd child and I have a lot of other projects currently going on so it may just stay in running/riding (albeit stock) condition for a bit

Stopped in at Service Honda today after a doctors appointment for me knee. Turns out the ACL has been fully torn since last Oct and I've just been dealing with it. But it's "given out" on me several times (due to the lack of the ACL) and because of that I have torn both the lateral and menial meniscus as well. I'm set to have ACL replacement surgery next Fri.

Because of that and the 6 month recovery tho I am going to be selling my bike. But before I see it go I wanted to at least utilize it to get the conversion done so I could make a jig to build the subframes and get started selling conversion kits. So in talking with AJ he is going to be able to help me get my first subframe all welded up before I sell the bike so that in the next few weeks I can get the rest of the parts made and start putting together kits!

Maybe I can sell enough kits to fund a new bike by next spring haha

I may buy one! I have a kx125 now, and am saving for a 2010+ crf250, but I plan on buying a cr125/250 and doing this, it'd be sick to have a crf250 and a cr250 with the same plastics and graphics! Bike looks amazing man. Sorry to hear about the ACL. Like Jeff Emig said, " Here the thing. If a rider says he has a hang nail, he actually broke his arm" One tough MOFO you are Wink And congrats on the kid man!

And if the people who are interested in buying a kit want me to start a pre-production group buy thread I can do that, as long as that's within Vital rules

I attempted to put the newer CRF plastic on my 06 CR250. I ran into a problem with the shrouds. They wouldn't fit with the stock tank. Additionally the 09-12 CRF tank I bought didn't fit on my bike due to the electronic power valve motor being in the way. (The stock tank has a cut out for it.)

Awesome, thanks for the heads up! I might need to offer a tank with the kit for the RC valve models

I'v recently bought a CR 125 2003 and want to do a CRF 250 2012 conversion iv looked all over the internet to try find a list of parts etc needed and a step by step guide but no luck anywhere. I'v seen mention of brackets being put into production. Can someone shed some light please?
