They're checking for a light. That goes off when the gate drops. That Mike would look at - maybe even stare at. So he knows that the gate is dropping. A gate, which is accelerating toward Earth at 9.8 meters per second, squared. That has to somehow trigger some system that then relays and tells Mike that the gate is dropping. So he can see the light. So that he can then know that the gate is dropping. So he can grab the holeshot.
Does anyone else see the obvious problem with cheating in this manner? It's kind of like emailing yourself when you get an itch so you know to scratch.
My thoughts exactly...breaking the laws of physics is much more likely than him just getting a once in a lifetime jump.

Last year "Moose can" got a holeshot just like Alessi. I do not recall the AMA or the haters hating.

Looks to me like he just has amazingly fast reactions. He doesn't start moving until after the gate moves but then yeah, he's going before it

Wasn't his main event start proof enough? Sheesh. I think it's cool watching him rip massive holees I just get tired of seeing him sink like an anchor. I was honestly happy for him in the heat race, but I coulda done without the waterworks.

I don't get all the complaining about "jumping"/"guessing"/"timing" the starting gate. The backward falling gate has a built-in penalty for getting it wrong.

At Freestone about three years ago I made sure to watch #800 close on one of his starts. On that one, five feet out of the gate he was about 38th. He went around the first corner about third.
