Got a letter in the mail from KTM yesterday. To summerize it, they just wanted to let me know that all of the information collected during their Demo Ride days (Name, Address, Driver License #, Birth Date, etc) was in a file that one of their KTM Vendors posted on the internet for anyone to download. They said they were sorry this has happened to your personal data, but we have enclosed a coupon for 1 year of Credit monitoring for your troubles.

Way to go KTM, you guys didn't even need to get hacked to give your customers and prospective customers data away.

Yup. They are offering a credit monitoring service free of charge for one year. It sucks that it happened but that's about the best they can do and they did it right off the bat in order to try and mitigate the damages immediately. I look at that and think KTM is a stand up company that I would trust to do business with.

Agreed. Way to go KTM for doing the right thing & addressing the problem asap. I don't see to many other companies doing something like that. I'd trust & buy from a company like that as well. Bravo

Do you think Bank of America would have sent a letter? They just cancel your credit cards without notice regardless where you are.

Why do you even mind if someone knows your name and birth date? I would not care about that.

The only thing i dont want anyone to know is my email adress, but everyone can know my name, birth date etc.

The point is they were not hacked like other companies, they just posted it on the internet for download. IMO - not doing a good job of safeguarding data.

But KTM wasn't the ones who put the information out there for anyone to use, it was their vendor, as according to your first post.

So yes, bravo to KTM to clean up that vendors mess.

I see a human error not a corporate error. No need to throw everyone at KTM under the bus.

HAHA, nice try. This happens all the time with almost all corps. Like mentioned already, nobody tells you. KTM deserves props for letting you know. Actually, it is the first time I have ever heard of a corp coming out and acepting resposibility. Pretty cool of them.

Actually most of these issues are human error and not due to hacking. I could tell you horror stories of our government mishandling your personal information but instead I'll say that it's great that KTM is offering a year of credit monitoring!

I've seen state DMV sell registered motorcycle owners info to OEM for them to send out letters for Sales events, Demos, Promos, etc.....

Don't forget! They're going to have all of the TTR models....

And so the taliban can climax, they're going to have both the 250 and 125 2 strokes there...

Or pay their employees to intentionally deny loan modifications and basically, steal peoples homes!

I just got the warning in the mail today.

So how many thieves downloaded to the shopping list? I know of a case where a club officials son sold all the club members details to some bike thieves (or was part of it) who started a nice little business in used MX bikes. And one by one they started going through it.
