HI,
I am going to be in Reno for Thanksgiving weekend and want to ride.

I have been told there is a sand track in Fernley but cant find any info about who runs it and when it is open.

Can someone help me out?

I'd also be interested in any other sand tracks that are in the Reno area that will be open for riding...

-thanks

Just checked exit 28 on their Facebook page and there is still no info on if they will be open this weekend.

Edit: they will be open sat and Sunday 10-3.... They are located off of exit 28 on I80 just east of reno... I might be there Saturday if my wrist feels better! 25 per rider and 5 dollars for spectators

There is a track out by the stead airport that is on BLM Land, it is not a sand track at all but you can just pull up and ride no charge. I work 10 minutes from it and it is good for what it is..... Better than nothing. You can google map it to get directions.

I haven't ridden fernley yet, I was planning on stopping by BVH Honda tomorrow and will ask if they know If fernley will run this weekend and let you know!

Fernley is supposed to be really cool. I think it is run by the club, or check with some of the Bay Area OTHG folks, they should know how to track down info on that place. I think it is only open for certain events or races.

Fernley is open this weekend. It's just off the highway near .... Yep, fernley. It's an open track so it's usually free but if they are prepping it I think it's $25 or so. Moonrocks has miles of trails and a few natural tracks people have hammered out, it's pretty fun if your not looking for jumps. South Lake Tahoe has a sand track that is open and free. It's small but a lot of fun if they don't have snow. Exit 28 is really cool but I wouldn't call it sand, about the closest thing to dirt I have found around here.
Oh and Stead is alway open and free. Great track but totally hard pack unless its prepped and that only happens on a race day.

Cool, Thanks for the info.

I will check out Fernley on Saturday. Is it sandy enough there to run a Dunlop MX11 rear tire?

Also, what are the normal hours people ride there?

The track in Fernley is open but ungroomed. Its lots of sand, a MX31 or MX11 works great.

Exit28 is open from 10-3 both days, it'll be groomed and is a lot of fun. MX31 works great there

If you wanna do some moto with some super fun trail riding, Moonrocks is northern Nevada's only OHV area. Its open with no costs or restrictions. You can ride out there for hours and never hit the same trail twice... and there are tracks everywhere!

Unlike most states we have tons of open riding areas, if you can see it... well you can pretty much ride on it with no issues.

Thanks for the info =)

I'll throw on a MX11 rear, drive up Friday night and sleep in the van at the track, ride all day then head over to Tahoe with my wife to get drunk, lose some money and snowboard on Sunday.

The only question left is how dumb am I to drive 4 hours to ride a beat up dried out sand track? =)

Its not that beat up, plus it'll have some moisture about an inch down... the track is fun. Head down the start straight and hang a right.
