Myself, I'm glad that I didn't have the money to keep my son racing. Just as 35smom said, my boy rode stock bikes. 2 years on an 85, and then the first year on a YZ250F, he made it to Loretta's winning the stock and mod class on a stock bike. A great confidence builder for a 15 year old kid after racing only 3 years. We all enjoyed his success and it made a difference in his life. But this game is a game of tragedy. Two kids from our local area went to MTF and didn't go to school. Good for them their fathers have a business they work at. They were very fast at local stuff, but couldn't make in the pro's. Factory sponsorship has dried up in the last few years, and if you don't have it, you're not making it. Plain and simple. To 35smom, at 19 , your son doesn't have an education, if your boy doesn't get a full factory sponsorship soon, get him in college and at least he will have income to make a living. Very few make anything in this sport, and if he isn't sponsored at the top he has no chance, unless he beats them , which is impossible. Time is ticking to make the decision to continue, or go to school and learn something that can reward him with a good life. It's not me. It's just reality. Good Luck 35smom.
Thank you. No college for him. We know what the pitfalls of MX are. Have a garage with 300K plus in tools. He's mechanically inclined like his dad. Hopefully dealing for a few Chevy Apaches this week!!

Yes we all know that. But you calling the families I have know for ever as white trash is bullshit...admit it. Kinda funny I asked you earlier for your name and racing number, but you didn't provide?
Ever read the bio on Jake Weimer? His dad bet the family farm...

im not giving out my name on the internet.

bullshit, yeah sure why not. white trash was alittle harsh, but its still incredibly dumb, nonethless. (the motolife)

yeah, ive read about jake weimer. for every guy who makes it to a factory team, theres a wake of failures with nothing to show for it except for broken bones and a late start in reality. and lets face it, these people aren't exactly geniuses to begin with and they never had proper guidance either..read below

have you ever heard about jason lawrence, ryan mills, ben riddle, austin stroupe, brian swink? not to mention the other countless number of punk idiots who were handed everything and threw it all away

All perfect examples of exactly what im talking about. all degenerates doing nothing with their lives.

Swink isnt a bad guy i dont think, but listening to his podcast was really depressing. Here was a dude who at one point in his life was one of the best motocross racers in the country and now hes working at a company assembling x-ray machines for minimum wage

The difference is that moto parents are white trash and have no concept of the term "Return on Investment" while these parents are smart in the sense that if you make it as a golfer ,you can make serious money and its not a life threatening sport. How many golfers turn into drunks / dope fiends because of their injuries??

Motocross racers dont make $$ unless they're top 10, top 5 maybe.

I have no dog in this fight but I clicked on your screen name to see who you are and wanted to give you a heads up regarding your BIO.

I have been around motocross since the late 70's when my then boyfriend, now ex husband Joe raced. I was always a "tomboy" and have rode since I was young.(If you see me at a races ask to look at my chin.. def moto scar from when I was 9 yrs old! )
We became involved again in 1999 when my son Joey was old enough to race. Since that day I have been having the time of my life. We are a family that eats, breathes and lives motocross...and I wouldnt have it any other way!!!
My son now at the age of 16 is a Team Yamaha rider with the greatest sponsors in the world, Mike Duclos of Rock River Powersports, Scott, Fly Racing, Engine Ice/Pro Clean,, Yoshamira (Should be = Yoshimura), Dunlop, Bel Ray, Only One Inspiration, Glissen Landscaping, The 529 Foundation, Motographx, GPMX Motocross School, Twin Air and KB5 Suspension and Mods.
For 2011 Joey will be moved up to the A class through Lorettas Lynns and wil be in the Rock River Semi for Unadilla and the last 3 MX outdoor races, He will also race both SX and MX in 2012 for them.
I cant thank all of our sponsors (PROBABLY MEANT TO ADD "ENOUGH" HERE BUT YOU FORGOT) for the help in the years leading up to what I describe as the light at the end of the tunnel...phewww we are almost there!
Locdawg is unfortunately 100% right!
Soon after you turn pro you will learn this sport and all its sponsorship money are focused on just just a very few chosen riders.

For most of you riders on the road to becoming a pro I feel sorry for you because you have been brain washed by an illusion that if you put everything into this sport you will end up on a so called factory team making millions.

This dream of being that one or two riders is a grand illusion put out their with the alliance between motorcycle distributors and promoters both of which are making the bulk of the money the Mx/sx racing business generates.

99.9 % of pro riders coming up will earn less then it cost to ride at a professional level but by then it's too late your have wasted the last 15 years learning only how to ride and race motorcycle and have invested all your money either on tracks riding coaches and amateur racing.
Now if you want to do anything else you have to start over.

99.9 % of you riders that make it to pro will leave this sport very disappointed with life long physical emotional and mental disorders that you will be forced to deal and live the rest of your life

No shit!! Not only a 20 something, but a noob too! Pinch

People make mistakes in all walks of life, and there is often a laundry list of circumstances that play into decisions and outcomes.

A
word is bond!

Look, being a pro golfer doesnt destroy your body and even if you dont make it as a pro, its a good game to know how to play should you choose to use your brain in the business world later on in life..

the amount of money, pain, dedication and time it takes to get to the pro levels of motocross aren't worth it.

busting your ass just to fill up up the gate for DC and Feld or whatever ain't worth it, just to line their pockets with your own blood.

Whats the difference between someone who flips burgers at a fast food restaurant and the average pro motocross racer?

The burger flipper actually makes money

So when did everyone start deciding that hobbies had to turn into careers? MX, golf, baseball, football, basketball, soccer - weren't these all meant to be just hobbies? If you have the ability and the desire to make a career out of them, great. But if not, what's the problem with just doing them because you enjoy them? And for the record, I stopped giving a shit what parental advice locdoggydog had to say right after he said he didn't have any kids. I am having a difficult time figuring out why he even comes here if he seems to hate everything, everyone and every circumstance that has to do with motocross. Good lord everyone needs to stop giving a shit about the way everyone else lives. That seems to be all this place has come to lately.

did you even read anything i wrote or are you just responding to see yourself talk?

Plenty of folks pursue things as a hobby, nothing wrong with that. Mortgaging your future for a job that isnt there than having the nerve to complain about it, ask for hand outs, is what i think is entirely pathetic.

I simply stated that it reflects poorly on the parents because investing in a pro motocross career is about the worst thing a parent can do if they want to see their child succeed later on in life and investing in a golf career is probably just as good as an investment as going to college due to the socioeconomics of it and other tangible benefits

not taking responsibility for ones actions seems to be the America way these days

Responding to see myself talk? Bold words from someone who has bantered back and forth on this matter for as long as you have. Why can't you just let it go? I really don't see why you care so much.

60 posts since 11/15? Wow....

You do realize you are arguing/talking shit to 2 of the most level headed, moto-educated, "been around the sport" people on this site right? I'd say they know more about the finances, effort, reward, people, hell...they have both forgot more about this sport and the people in it than your dumb ass will ever know....

won't miss out on much with not going to college.

no scholarship no go.

i've been paying too fuckin' much for school loans for the last 6 years and i only have 14 to go.

i would never take racing back, ever. but i would never take my education back either. it's a pity this country is so fucked up that an education is harder to pay for than a new F350 and toyhauler tacked onto a $300k mortgage.

ps... when are we going to get another video of your son ripping a smoker? how about putting him on a 300? he'll never want to ride a 250 again

Bwahahahahahaha...nice Back-Pedal...but...uh...

I live on a golf-course, thank you. Hell, all my friends with STUPID money try to get me to get them a T-time...ALL THE DAMN TIME...'cause it's suppose to be THE golf-course down here in SoCal; but, me? Oh, HELL NO! If there's time to get in one of those Goofy-Assed Carts while wearing those Goofy-Assed clothes? Well, guess what...Princess? There's a better time to be had by my Red-Neck Portagee-Fat-Ass out at Pala or Milestone. Capiche?

I grew up in a golf-course community...as a kid...in Nor-Cal.

The ONLY thing that captures the truth of the golf-course community is Caddy-F'n-Shack. PERIOD. Douche-Bags with Big Money, Huge Bar-Tabs and really bad taste. Yup. That covers it. (But, to be fair: Hottie Daughters with MB-SL's that I'd drive the shit outta...'til we got up in the hills...then I'd set the E-Brake and "talk")

So damn classic of you to make Wannabe-Elitist comments masked in the veil Socioeconomic statements. You really told us who the f'k you wannabe with that one.

So, next-time, be sure to add a little racism or some other back-handed slander. Ok, pumkin?

Signed,

Proud Poor White Island Trash
OH SHIT!!! He busted out the racism comment..... Typical

Not defending the dude but nothing was ever said about race... Just like a fukn Liberal.

I guess some could view the term "white trash" as racist but iunno..

He's just sayin though...Laughing

And I know quite a few corporate white collar moto dads and moms. Not everyone has to work overtime in a plant to afford it.
Anything wrong with working overtime in a plant to afford riding? You just described me, well the old me. My plant job of 18 years went to Pakistan. I now work overtime in 3 different hospitals instead, lol.

Anyway, we had a blast riding/racing. We still do actually but now my grandson has joined in on the family fun!

Can someone please explain to me why some of you are trying to give out life advice to others, and why do you even care how other families are living their lives? Its pretty obvious that some of you are bitter over something that happened (or didn't) in your own life, otherwise you wouldn't spend so much energy trying to shit on other people. We get it, your dreams in life didn't quite pan out the way you wanted them to, so now it makes you feel it little bit better to try and push some of your own disappointments on to other people, in hopes that you make them feel as bad as you do about yourself and where you ended up in life. I guess misery really does love company.

Explain to me why people like the wife of Shane Watts has the nerve to attack the "fans" because her husband is getting used by the "industry" and not getting paid

Explain to me why dead beat dads come on here and ask for hand outs to get their kids to amateur races?

It's sad that so many people can't take responsibility for their own actions then come on here and complain or beg..#pathetic

A- Obviously that's what happens when you let a woman use a keyboard instead of a frying pan...

There are more golfers making a living but based on the number that play, the percentage of making it are probably similar. My step dad takes about 7 advil in the morning for his golfer back and all of his golf mates are drunks. Plus, at least mx seems to develop some very strong family and friendship bonds, kids learn technical skills, and the importance of maintenance and the absolute advantage of preparation, fitness and nutrition -- and hopefully carry that through for the rest of their life.

Post a reply to: Think moto dads are one of a kind? slightly OT
