I'm assuming these no helmet wheelies were before he looped out doing one, got injured and almost missed the X Games? His reverse turn down whip is the best I've ever seen and could watch it all day. Wasted talent to the fullest but he's having fun so good for him.

Come on thou wearing a beanie when it's 80+ degrees is so stupid and makes him look ridiculous.

I'm curious how he is wasting talent?

"His reverse turn down whip is the best I've ever seen and could watch it all day. "

Well, there isn't much opportunity to do that on a SX/MX track. But tons making sweet free-ride videos, riding natural terrain and doing a few comps a year to pay the bills. If you ask me, Hanny is enjoying life and using his talents to the fullest right now.

BT101 took out Shorty in the MXoNations... Suck it Ben!
No he didn't.

Shorty did the "oh fuck the guy behind me is way faster, I might just fall off my bike now" ala the Vet MXON video. Wink

The sad part is that only 10 year old kids look up to people like Hanny, and if they see their idol running the streets w/o a helmet they will end up doing the same thing.
But who would have thought different, just look at BT101 and compare him to Hanny. Two complete different personalities, no offence here but it's almost like putting a rocket scientist next to a monkey.

Mmmm not if their parents are doing their JOB.
I watched a lot of stupid movies growing up, Crustys and whatever else bro movies.
Watched a lot of dumb stuff, no helmets, fire, etc. Never tried it because I knew my parents would come down on me like a fat chick on a chocolate cake. If I wanted to ride my dirtbike even if it was up the road and back to warm the oil up before changing it, my Dad made sure a helmet was on me and its something with me thats just stuck thanks to good parenting.

can someone explain to me how you all compliment his technique and how much style he has but yet refer to him as a "waste" of talent yet his talents are what you are talking about and what is getting him paid. im going to assume you are calling the waste as to racing? my question is why does everyone think that racing is the be all end all? he looks bad ass on a bike and is getting paid to do it. seems like his talent is doing exactly what it is suppose to be doing right?

Josh Hansens talent is his ability to stay relevant in the MX community without ever lining up in the gate. Making a living for fucking off on a scooter, in a dead-end industry? I can admit I am envious. Can you people?

This is a MX site, not a freestyle site. Of course the wasted talent comments are focused towards his racing. But he's just one of many who has suffered through a string of injuries that put a damper on his racing career. There are those industry types who have made the wasted talent comment before as well so don't think it originated from the keyboard jockeys.

Sad fact is that he's probably knocking down more money doing it his way than if he was running top ten in SX and MX. And yes, it is his talent that's getting him paid , along with his personality/image. He could possibly bring more money to MX and SX in the form of fans but if it doesn't put more money in his pocket then why should he?

ive been in the sport for more than half my life and am still a current racer. I know where and why people say he is a waste of talent but thats because everyone is assuming that his numeber 1 priority is to be a SX or MX champion when maybe his goal was to just make a living riding his bike , which he is. I think a lot of people who are not pro racers just think that the goal for everyone is to be the best racer than can be when thats not always the case. I know THIS is a motocross forum, but i still think to call him a waste of talent is really dumb, its not like he came on here asking for people to support his racing when he isnt racing. YOU just think of him as a racer, he isnt asking anyone to do that

Your "dont do shit" list has a world champion, a lites champion, and an AX champion on it. It seems no one is safe from "the hammer".

this edit was eerily similar to my memories of those videos... fuckin' sick tunes by Strung Out (hint?) too

if your kid starts riding without a helmet because of a 3 min video, he is a weak minded little fuck that will probably die off soon anyway. and, you are a shitty parent for not giving the kid common sense.

What would you prefer? the dubstep shit that sounds like a robot fucking a police siren? Some rap song where every 3rd word is fuck or N***a? The song chosen for this video fits the edit, and the personality of the rider in it, what could be better?

And to be honest, I am really not a punk fan in the least, but it goes well in this instance.

I wonder if Ben found it smart to go out on the first lap of practice, try and jump every jump, and destroy his hip...
Or the other times he went out in practice on the first lap and destroyed himself.

Is it smart to show the kids they should jump everything the first lap of practice?

Hansen is not a wasted talent. He run out of talent years ago then realised that the hard work needed to get all the way to the top was too much like hard work.
So after few half hearted attempts at a comeback which was basically him wiping out any young privateer that got near him he realised he should stick too "keeping it real".
MX is a sport for men. You got to be tough, and even tougher to make it.
Wannabes and posers need not apply. He should stick to making little jump vids.
