I went shopping for some furniture for the garage project recently. Some things for the media room upstairs. First couple of stops were met with mostly junk so the wife and I headed to one of the newer, nicer furniture stores here locally. As soon as we hit the door someone was there to show us around. Told her we already had purchased some lower end furniture for the house that was junk and needed to be replaced after just a few years so I wanted a good quality product this time. Found a sleeper sofa that looked good but was the wrong color so I asked what was involved in getting the color of my choice. Without missing a beat, she says that that would involve waiting on another shipment from China. It was just one of those WTF moments as the thing was priced pretty damn high for being Chinese crap. Somewhat disgusted, I went in search of a store that sold La Z Boy products. Nothing in stock to look at there so we made plans to look in Houston while going gun safe shopping this weekend.

We rolled up to the La Z Boy store in NW Houston and were met by a lady who was retired Army. Took us straight to some top quality stuff, a sleeper sofa that was actually comfortable. Had an air mattress, US made and what color and fabric would you like? And the chairs and the rug you like? Here it all is, the fabric and leather choices and let me show it all to you here on the computer in your color choices. All that was made here in the US as well. 8-12 weeks, maybe sooner and it will delivered to me 100 plus miles from their store. So far I'm tickled shitless. Just bummed it was so difficult to find something locally yet so easy to find it in Houston.

Off we went to look at safes. Ended up with a US made Champion, not one of their lower end, Mexican prison inmate ones. All I've ever heard about safes was that it will never be big enough. So it's a big one, more room for more guns....

Thomasville NC has a bunch of furniture makers. Lots of furniture outlets in that area too.

Yes it does Manny!

I always thought it was cool that most of the top aftermarket comapnies for MX are American made and designed.

I bet if you take your house, dump everything out down to the carpet - furniture, fixtures, appliances, every little thing - my guess is well over half was made outside USA.

In my experience you won't have any room for more stuff. The way most "spaces" are layed out in a safe only lever action rifles fit as advertised. Front to back, scopes intrude into other row spaces too. I'm thinking of buying my wife her own safe so I can get all my room back. With bolt action and most semi-autos they need to go in every other space to fit without banging into each other.

That's why I went with the largest one I could afford to begin with. No one I've spoken to has ever said their safe was big enough by the time they started loading up non gun stuff. The interior in this thing is pretty bland. Browning has some bad ass interiors on theirs with door mounted rifle racks and scope pockets recessed into the door. The cedar interior, metal shelving with rubber coating and edges make for a damned impressive looking piece. But once the door is shut you don't see that!

Browning safe interior....SWEET

Someone actually did that. Maybe HGTV or DIY Network? I forget, but I remember seeing it on tv a few years ago. Anyway they did a kitchen and a living room. Took everything out that wasn't made in America and replaced it with American made items. The cost difference was shocking. I can't recall the exact amount, but I want to say the total cost was around $100 more than the non-American stuff.
