Hey guys, we are going Wednesday through Monday. We won't have a lot of time to check stuff out because this is a work trip but do you guys have any dining or local attractions that are a must? I've been to the zoo there before already.

Also, if you were spending a day at the beach would you choose Mission Bay or Coronado?

Coronado over Mission Bay any day of the week. Coronado is a ritzy area with nice beaches. Mission Bay is the place where they dump all the runoff from cleaning the whale tank at Sea World. Do yourself a favor and head south on the highway from Coronado and check out the Silver Strand State Beach.
For other attractions, there are a ton. I'm guessing you'll be down south in the actual city, so try Balboa Park and Old Town (eat at any of the Mexican restaurants in Old Town.) The Gaslamp Quarter in downtown is a hip area for nightclubs if you're into that.
If you don't mind going a little farther afield, try to make it up to Escondido and check out Stone Brewery; it's got a restaurant and a beer tour, not to mention a ton of great drafts.

Definitely do Coronado. It's been consistently ranked as one of the top 10 beaches in America for a few years now.

When you say "we", I assume you'll have your wife/girlfriend, and possibly kids with you? If so, hit up SeaWorld's Aquatica waterpark in Chula Vista, or head north to Legoland in Carlsbad. If you're looking for something a little more 'cultured' head to Balboa Park (where the zoo is) and take in a museum – the air & space museum and car museum are great ways to kill an afternoon. There's also the Midway Museum if you want to get your Top Gun on.

If you're a beer drinker, you'll think you died and went to beer heaven. I don't think it's possible to throw a rock anywhere in San Diego County without hitting some type of brewery/restaurant or taproom.

I'm leaving a lot of stuff out simply because there's so much to do that I'm getting a bit of brain overload trying to think of everything. One thing I will say is that no matter where you decide to go, you'll have a good time. Even though I haven't lived there in quite a few years, it's still my favorite city in the world, and I can't wait until I can move back there for good.

Thanks for the advice.

Yes it is my wife and I no kids.....

We are staying at the Marriott with the marina.

We looked into the old town area already and were planning on checking it out. Is there a specific restaurant we should try?

Is there any good volleyball games at the Coronado beaches?

We are also considering going to Bencotto in little Italy. Is little Italy worth checking out?

I believe you're talking about the "Midway" an excellent choice.
Gas Lamp district has many excellent restaurants.
If you are a member of costco, they sell $100 restaurant gift cards
(actually 2 pack of $50 cards) for $80 nice discount since your
going to the restaurant anyway. Works at many quality restuarants.
My wife and I really enjoy Vigalucci's in Encinitas. They have half a dozen
locations around SD, some are steak houses you'll have to check. If you
like sea food, an abundance of excellent sea food restaurants. Anthony's
being one of the oldest and famous, 3 separate restaurants, different
levels, casual to formal. You might try a "horn blower" cruise around
the bay one night. You may want to go to a good micro brewery or 2,
or possibly wine tasting? Are you more the sight seeing
type or go out and do something. Maybe rent some kayaks in La Jolla?
Head up the coast to Encinitas, for that small town coastal environment.
Excellent beach there also, Moon Light Beach.
There are always the world class San Diego Museums at Balboa Park.
You just can't go wrong, you'll be in paradise.

If you and your wife aren't afraid of open water, I highly suggest renting kayaks at La Jolla cove. I had a seal come up and swim by me for like 5 minutes and I could have reached into the water to touch him he was that close. Super cool experience.

Definitely check out the USS Midway since you're right there. If you're in Little Italy, check out the Firehouse museum on Cedar and Columbia...very cool. Balboa park is worth a visit too, as is La Jolla Cove. As someone mentioned, the kayaking is cool by the caves. As far as beaches, Coronado is awesome...there is a brewhouse there as well...of course. Enjoy! I love living here!

If you got some time to kill during the day; take a drive out to Julian, CA. About a hour and fifteen minutes away from San Diego, great apple pie there and just really nice scenery as well. Little out of the way but IMO might be worth the drive...

Ha, heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago that San Diego was voted best pizza city in the US. didn't pay attention to which pizza houses they cited but I'm sure if you google it. Also, Steak house, depends on your price range. Donavan's Steakhouse.
Very upscale and $$$s. Don't know where you're located but for a quick afternoon lunch you can't go wrong at In-n-Out Burger,
West coast chain think a few in AZ and NV also.

I don't get the pizza rating...I still like Round Table. But for steaks, go to Ruth's Chris or Morton's. Seafood go to Anthony's or Pt. Loma Seafood....right out of the water fresh. Burgers, Bare Back Bar in Pacific Beach.

Oh gosh I miss San Diego more than anything. For good food go to Dicks Last Resort. They give you a lot of food and it has a pretty neat atmosphere. Like someone had said there is good food and great bars everywhere. I would go down to Old Town San Diego too. There are a lot of good Mexican restaurants and a ton of neat souvenir shops. Here's what I picked up for my family while I was there:

Yes!!!! We have had a blast. We went to mission bay and checked it out and then went north to Carlsbad ( we went there once before) and after about 10 hard crashes I remembered I couldn't surf very good. Lol. I've ran along the front of the bay most mornings. We just got back from the Kawasaki dealer party/public launch in the gas lamp district. Hopefully you got to catch some of that. We are here till Monday and plan to catch a ferry to corrando tomorrow. I may try to redeem myself surfing tomorrow......

We have ate at some great places, Bencotto (sp), Basic Pizza and of course in n out. We also hit up hodads (sp?) in ocean beach on Thursday.

We've had a great time and as always I'm trying to find a way to move out here. ;-)
