I realize that masking tape seems to be the most commonly used tape for repacking, but is there anything wrong with using duct tape instead?

Thanks

Other than it melting and making a mess, masking tape of a piece of thin wire is best.

Do not use masking tape or duck tape as both of these will set on fire, buy some fiberglass wadding its very cheap and the right stuff for the job.

I would stick to masking tape. The duct tape will probably get all gummy and be a PITA to remove at the next repacking when it gets all stuck to the inside of the can.
