2012 RMZ450

Hey guys,
On Monday, I'm picking up my first "new" bike with just over six hours on it. I thought it was an awesome deal for 4500 so I put a down payment on it. It was previously a race bike. I can see it has Factory Connection suspension and an hour meter. I haven't really looked at anything else, but it had a Yoshi exhaust shield. This is my first four stroke and new bike. I know I'm going to love the fuel injection. So I was wondering, what should I first put money into? Skid plate? Levers?

Thanks
Brian

That is a awesome bike, assuming the tires chain sprockets etc are good, have the suspension sprung for your weight, set sag and ride.radiator braces, check bolts, remove screen from air filter cage, or buy a rm 250 filter cage(screenless) gear it 13/51 depends on your weight , skill level, type of riding you do, I added a full yosh rs4 to mine, helped the bike alot. Really depends on your budget. vortex ignition box is really good, but you know good stuff is not cheap. Options are endless all depending on budget. How much money you looking to spend?

What is your skill level? It's probably got more potential stock than most of us do.

@mxb2 I plan on spending money on whatever I want. I think I'll stick with stock exhaust since I won't need the extra power.

@DocMarten I will check the valves although it's practically new, and I plan on getting a bunch of airfilters and airfilter covers for two lines of defense from dust/debris.

@captmoto I'd say I'm inbetween amateur and intermediate. It doesn't matter too much since I'll be using the bike for trails. Man I love dem trails.

Thanks guys!

If you're riding trails, maybe a flywheel weight. Other than that, save the money for maintenance and repairs.

No problem with the stock screen, but the screen less air filter cage will help the bike breathe better, you can cut it out, or the easy solution.use a rm 250.kit, its already screenless, small cheap mod.I.WD not cut it out and take and chance of any fragment going into intake and damaging motor. No.toil, twin air, make them. Notoil is cheaper and plastic, twin air more expensive but good product.and aluminium . Hope that helps.

I think you'll be more than happy with the bike with the list of goodies already on it! Find out from the seller what exactly is in the suspension. (spring rates and if it was revalved and for what type of riding/skill level). Springs are an easy switch if you need, and proper rates will make a big difference if the rider weights are different. From there, if it's setup for motocross, setups are quite a bit different for offroad, so you may want to look into a revalve. Again, rider skill and type of riding it's setup for if it has been revalved will be personalized vs. a generic stock setting.

If you are just looking for bling to personalize your new toy, can't ever really go wrong with some protective goodies from Works Connection, levers, anodized goodies. And you also can look into brake lines and rotors which will be great in the trails along with a skid plate if you're hopping any logs and rocks.

I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't tell you that if you need anything suspension related, I'd love to help you out with a deal. Just shoot me an email to chris@racetech.com, whether you need springs, a revalve, service, seals, oil, etc., I'd love to have Race Tech on your bike.
