I cant even imagine how it would feel to be in Dungey's shoes if/when Poto hangs em up and Dungey never has the satisfaction of beating him. Could you imagine, year after year, putting in the hard work, tweaking the bike and coming up just short and then bang, the guy that's been beating your ass hangs em up and hands you a couple years of #1 plates, and you know damn well in your heart that those #1 plates are only yours because the other guy let you have them? What a mind fuck that would be. Dungey has to be one of the most mentally strong people around to put in all this work year in and year out only to have his destiny in someone elses hands? Someone like Alessi puts in the work but he knows in his heart that a top 3 in the series is about all he has got and prepares accordingly. Dungey on the other hand prepares for war and is hands and fists above everyone else, but knowing he cannot beat RV, he could probably back it way down on the preparation and still come in 2nd just as he is now without the 150% dedication. Its got to be tough mentally to be in a position like that.

For RV, its the opposite, he wakes up every morning knowing that if he keeps doing what he is doing, no one will ever BEAT HIM for a title. When he is sick of winning or starts to feel bad for Dungey, he can simply just walk away with the satisfaction that he was always top dog.

You are an asshat, or have GOT to be dripping in sarcasm..... You make it sound like RV is leagues better then RD. If it wasn't for RD's DNF at Red Bud....how would the points look? Really friggin close! (12 pts) They are incredibly close on skill and speed, RV seems to get the better of the two, but his stats could be a lot different without Dungeys DNF's. RV has never beat RD outdoors for a title where RD hasn't had a mechanical. That is fact. Just like RD hasn't won an outdoors title without an injury from RV. I'd just friggin love these two to complete all 24 motos in a season then there could be fair bragging rights. We have yet to see it.Sad

BTW....RV is King of SX.
Hey, Im a huge Dungey fan and cant stand RV, but facts are facts. When both of them race an entire series, RV has won every single one of them. You can say all you want about mechanicals and whatnot but facts are facts. I was simply stating that it has GOT to be difficult for a person to put everything they have into something, only to come up just short every time to the same guy. Dungey is the only person out there besides RV who is not fooling himself by thinking he has a shot at the title every morning when he wakes up. No where did I say he wasn't as good as Poto or anything like that, I just stated that RV has gotten the better of him every single season they have raced together and that it must be tough to deal with mentally. I think your looking too far into what I said.

They have not completed a full season together outdoors. RV missed due to injury, and RD's mechanical DNF's and 0 points. You can't say RV wasn't relieved to get breathing ground when RD's pumpkin crapped the bed...I say he was very happy. Riding as hard as he was and wait, Dunge was right there getting some wins and RV not gaining any breathing room. As I said, if not for Red Bud, RD would be about 12 points back.....not the huge gap it is now. Way less pressure on RV. I realize that running out of gas and an electrical issue are part of moto, but it sure is a piss off and THAT is what has to frustrate RD more then anything. His bike letting him down. Almost happened again at Millville Blink

Why does everybody bring up DNF for Dung,,,but nobody brings up RV1's DNS or DNF's or CRASHES ??? 2013 sx RV1 was 16th in pts after rd one and came back and Dusted dung for the plate,, 2012 RV1 had a DNS = a DNF and Dusted dung for the SX plate. IN 2011 MX RV1 had some crashes ( like 4 or 5 of them ) and it was a 1 pt season ( even with dung's DNF ) and
with 4 rounds to go and RV1 beat dungey again,,STOP acting like RV1 got his plates handed to him,,He worked for them and beat dungey in the MX 250cc's The 450 cc MX and the 450cc SX seasons.. oo yaa in 2010 SX RV1 had a DNF then went on a roll and was beating dung 3 in a row then two in a row and was pulling up on dung's ass before ending his season with a huge crash. RV1 can beat RD any time he want's on anything he want's.

You seem to post a lot of negative posts about rv, why is that? I'm just curious. You have been around motocross forever, just thought you show plenty of respect to everyone not named rv. Hey if you just don't like him that's your business.

I think only dungey has anywhere close to the speed. In that first moto dungey and poto both were making up serious time on all three front runners coming thru the field. So, I think only dungey beats him now. I think tomac my even get him in a moto at the mxdn if he gets a start but I think it will take at least 2 if not three seasons to stand a chance of taking a title from him.

They (rv, et) both need to get their starts dialed in before the end of sept. We got a trophy that needs to come back home!!

Tell me Einstein....when has RV had a DNF outdoors since '10? Crashes have nothing to do with what I'm talking about. You're just a fan boy jumping in stroking your man. Read and absorb what I wrote in my two comments. Jeez, it was a good thread till you spewed your crap....NOOB

That is probably the dumbest rant I have ever read. So when all the great riders hang up their boots the other riders that earn championships should know in their hearts they didn't really earn it.

Also maybe you forgot 2010 Supercross Championship Dungey beat Villopoto. Dungey had the points lead, maintained it and Villopoto messed up in a rhythm section in St. Louis and broke his leg. No other way around it you have to race to win. Villopoto wrecked out of a series he wasn't even leading, meaning he got beat.

Lets say RV wins this title outdoors and on the podium at Elsinore announces that he is hanging up the boots. Next year Dungey comes out completely runs the table, and continues this for 2 or 3 years. You're telling me that there wouldn't be anything in his head realizing that he is dominating is because RV isn't there? I guess I am doing a horrible job at getting my point across. I'm not saying that RV is far superior to Dungey, just that by the numbers he has had Dungey's number more often than not when they have raced together. 10 years from now, when looking at the titles, people will look at RV's title gaps in 2010 and 2012 (outdoors) and wonder what happened in those years. The record books will show that RV was definitely the one to beat and Dungey getting a title here and there is more the exception than the rule.

I can see Villopoto hanging up the Boots in a couple years and retiring kind of the same way Ricky Carmichael did on top. If he stays healthy, he may go down in History as the second greatest MX/SX combined racer of alltime after RC. I guess it just matters how hungry he stays. 2 or 3 more years of winning championships and I'm sure he's going to start losing a bit of the Fire that makes him so fast. It's always sad to see these guys eventually retire, but he sure is entertaining to watch right now and it will be interesting to see with all these great riders if anyone can step it up and outright beat him for a Championship, but RV's only 25, so I can easily see him racing 3 more years at this speed unless an injury stops him. Lots of time to add more AMA Championships to the Resume, he's at 9 if he wins this years MX title
