Good luck this weekend and stay healthy.
But I find it hilarious the arguing of the the speed of a rider at a team practice day, that he wasnt at with some one who was riding on the track with him. Purely emotional based feelings.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
I seen him ride one time and was blown away, kid is fearless.
But like you said, I think they never saw him with riders like Metcalfe and me (I don't mean that arrogant cause there is a lot more guys faster than me) so maybe that is why!
The tracks are seriouse sand tracks and all located within 2.5 hours of "the wick", One of which is 100% private(halifax,MA).John dowd rides there with some other newengland pros. In the future please feel free to contact me. Maybe ill stop by to introduce myself this weekend.
be safe and God Bless!
I hope you do well and even give Bubba a run for his money but Bubba and Ferry both cut their teeth in the sand so your advantage may not be as big with them.
Why must you run your works suspension, and not some set up here by factory honda.
I mean, not saying USA stuff is better or anything like that, but factory Honda has the funding and ability to put whatever you want on that bike, if you have your team tell them what you run, they can duplicate it and removes the need of shipping it....
Im guessing its so you can run it on a practice bike????
Anyways, best of luck, let's all remember Barcia is still an amatuer, and this was his first year in the intermediate class, he is only 16 or something like that. You can never tell what someone will end up like, I think Villopoto proved that.
Not sure why anyone would think a "sand specialist" will have such an advantage at Southwick when year after year the AMA front runners do pretty well there. It's the locals who step it up.....and that's because there is an underlying vibe built in there that it's tthe locals day to stick it to the man and make their name......
If only once.....it has nothing to do with the sand. In my experience Southwick is just great fun loose dirt (roughed for sure )and if you are in shape (round 11 folks) you can go fast.
I think alot of guy's are gonna be fast. And gonna look like sand specialists. Calimero will have to tell us what he thinks after practice Saturday. We may hear more about his ankle than about the lap times.
And I am in no way bagging on Calimero. I hope he rides his best so that we can get an accurate assessment of his true speed compared to the rest of the field. I was there when Smets came over and it wasn't pretty.

Metcalfe - 250f
Barcia - 250f
You have nothing to fear, the kid is going to be good. I don't think anyone DOESN'T expect it. But he hasn't run a single Pro race yet. Metcalfe and DeReuver are quite likely going to be top 3 in their classes this weekend.
I saw the race with Smets in '01 too. What was so bad about it? He led for awhile and ended up about 6th I think?
Smets went 8-7 which is fine, but I believe more was expected of him and if I remember correctly he went backwards. He was a GP sand specialist as well correct?
I may be totally wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it. He just did spank Larusso and Dowd at southwick and an even better test will be next weekend at the New England championship where I am told he will be riding the A class. Only time will tell if I have a clue....
BARCIA
BARCIA
BARCIA
I don't think too much more was expected of Smets than that either? It was his first US National. Even then he was in his thirties riding a big KTM GP bike, and he wasn't even the top Euro guy at that point. Both Pichon and Everts were a notch or so above him. I thought he did well.
Something i know from first hand experience...
Metcalfe has nothing to prove out practicing with Barcia. Metcalfe is a sesoned pro who has nothing to prove at the practice track other than to put his laps in.
Barcia on the other hand just moved to the A class and is practicing with a podium contender. I can GUARANTEE you, no matter who the kid is he wants to try and prove to himself, and to everyone there that he can hang with Metcalfe.
When Barcia turns pro he'll be going fast, but don't sound so surprised he wasn't going as fast as Metcalfe right now. You move up the ranks the way you do for a reason.
I don't know about all that. Mills is a buddy of mine and I watched him turn expert at 13 years old spank all the local pro and experts all summer long!!!
He was the youngest kid I think I've ever seen bump himself up into the expert ranks and perform like he did. It's just to bad things have not worked out for him as of of recently cause he is more naturally talented on a motocross bike than anyone I know or have ever seen. And it's been like that since he was a lill ripper on 80's
But your right Barcia is a force to be reckoned w/ and I'm sure he will become a major player in the years to come.
Out of curiosity, what does Calimero mean amd why your name?
