Marshall Weltin was injured badly over the weekend. After a 1st in 250A and 2nd in OpenA over the 4th of July at RedBud Marshall was injured badly and decisions are being made about the best course of action. Although permanent paralysis is not part of the conversation now, the injuries are spinal and head injuries. Marshall was qualified to race in Pro Sport and 250A at LL.

We all wish Marshall the best and hope for a strong return next year. My daughter has visited Marshall at the hospital the last couple days and hopefully can provide updates on his condition soon.

Yeah, that really sucks, and he just got back from having a broken arm too. Hopefully he gets well soon.

thats too bad. he was at the gopher national in canada and i kind of caught the crash outta the corner of my eye. he was running 2/3 and was battling with politelli and the two came together. the two of them just kinda came together and i just saw the bikes go flying. not sure what exactly happened, just looked like a racing incident. bummer for him he was hauling. get well soon!

Brief update.......... My daughter stayed at the hospital late last to give Marshall's Mom a break. At this time they will not do surgery on burst T6 vertebrae as it is too risky. Unsure what that means for the future. He continues to have vommiting (must be really fun when he is in that much pain with back injury) and can't be sent anywhere until that subsides. My guess is the vommiting is a result of head trauma.

Scott167 - He doesn't have a clear recollection of what happened (no surprise). Maybe that is good, we wouldn't get back on a bike if we remembered the bad stuff. It seems that you are correct and it was just racing.

Looking for the good news in all this.......he has feeling, he is talking and there is conversation about going home at some point. Riding , running, surgery are all unknown. We all know guys that have come back from bad crashes.....let's hope this is the case.

My daughter will head back to the hospital in a while and give me updates.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

Marshal said on Facebook that Politelli cut the track and ran into him.

well... I was there in the mecanics area , just beside the incident and it looked more like politelli trying to make a pass and neither of them would give away the position and they collided entreing the corner. Just a simple (unfortunate) racing incident to me.

I guess Marshal was right against the yellow track markers, and Politelli went inside of the track markers. That's just what I hear.

Marshall was allowed to go home today. He will be in a brace and on a diet of rest for some time.

Perhaps Marshall and Politelli can have a conversation about who's piece of the track the other was on in the future. For now recovery is the order of the day.
