Thumb knuckle protector

The second knuckle of my throttle hand wears raw after just a single day of riding, even wearing gloves. It's generally bleeding after a few hours.

I don't want to have "man hands" and let a callus build up there!

I've seen soft pads/discs that slide on the grip, up against the round flat part of the grip.

What are those called?

Hard to google something you don't know the name of. :^)

Do you ride a two stroke Yamaha? I remember reading about Yamaha thumb or something like that in MXA.

The only Yamaha I have is my SuperJet - and it still skins my thumb and it has a trigger throttle. :^)

i started using grip donuts years ago (i rode yamahas and yamathumb is a real issue) and i swear by them, now if i ride without them i instantly blister on my thumb. never been a superstitious person, but i only buy grip donuts with the suzuki "S" logo... no idea why

That's funny because I run Honda grip donuts on my Kawasaki's and they always get transfered to the newest bike.

My Superjet gives me "Yamathumb" every time too. My CRF used to give me issues too, until I started using ProTaper grip donuts.

I first read about yamathumb in mxa years ago. Apparently the best cure is to go up one tooth on the rear sprocket.

I think Moose makes something like that. Google "Moose knuckle protector", or something like it...

I used them on my YZ back in the late 80's and 90's. They really cured the problem. Mine were leather "doughnuts" and available at the local Yamaha dealer.
