Sounds like the brake pads are wore enough that they let the caliper piston go to far out or the piston itself was pitted or rusted and not returning.

If you remove the caliper and then use a block (to represent the disc) then hit the brake and see if the piston releases. If everything looks good but doesn't release try replacing the brake fluid.

Check the pin the pads slide on for wear ridges. By all means throw a wrench on the bleed valve and bleed some fluid off simple and quick.

Sounds like you will need to inspect everything from the master cylinder to the brake line to the caliper. I have seen the brake line fail from the inside liner coming apart to the fittings on the ends allowing air into the system, when you do take it apart remember to use new crush washers.
