To ride around in 3rd-5th and prove that he can make it through a whole season? My gawd, alessi is keeping up with him! Really wish he would've got the knee fixed in the early SX season and came out swinging in the outdoors! I gotta say, I don't like this new Stewart guy. I would rather see him retire than struggle for a top 5! IMO of course

He already stated that he wants to finish the season in the top five in points.

Maybe his objective is to make money and have fun at the same time?

Stay up. Slowly get the bike dialed. Get faster as the season progresses. Probably his best decision in a long time. Thanks for asking.

He's not completed very many seasons in the past few years, I'd imagine he makes much more money completing a series than he does crashing out trying to win. I don't think he's going to bother riding on the edge anymore unless he's really feeling it that day.

The dudes been racing professionally for what, 12+ years? At some point all the racing, crashing and drama was going to eat away his drive to win.

He came from way back to run down Barcia in the second moto at Thunder Valley. He looks like a racer to me.........instead of wreckers or checkers. You guys get mad when he doesn't race.......then you complain when he gets beat. Must be tough walking in JS's shoes.

He seems to be pretty happy with third at this point. Considering lack of recent consistency, I don't blame him. I'm pretty sure he will step up at some point. If RV would be close to one of those 24-0 (which I doubt he can manage), I picture JS would step up to halt that at least!

i think it's just hard to watch someone like Stewart who had so much success and now not be able to mix it up with the 1-2-3 players.

Only the rarest of athletes go out on top. It's more than just a job for them. It's their livelihood and their identity all rolled up into one thing. I agree somewhat with the OP, but I also understand that this is his life.

Does he still have the desire? He certainly has the skills, so... When should he quit? Thats up to JS7 to answer that question. I don't have any real opinions myself other than if it's as hard to watch for me as it is for him to ride, then I would say now.

It could be as "simple" as James feeling that one dab of that right foot and his Summer is over. He looks very tentative in right hand turns. To be honest he looks tentative in a lot of places on the track. Survive the Summer is the vibe I'm getting.

I usually try not to add too much to a stupid thread but I gotta say Bubba is actually riding really solid, and NOOB is by far the biggest troll on vital.

Stewart may unleash the real James at some point if he is solidly in the points. Food for thought.

Don't bail on your guy. You've been a solid JS fan for a long time. It seems James is committed, and if he really is, he'll win some races again.

I think he should take the summer off to get the knee fixed. Come back strong for '14.

The fact that you guys are asking what's wrong when he is a consistent top 5 guy just shows how great he is. There's less than 10 MX riders in the world better than him right now and everyone is wondering what he's doing, why he's out there, and what's wrong. The truth is, nobody really knows, or if it's anything at all. The only thing I do know is that everyone here would love to be having his results.

It's hard to know what's really going on with these guys. There is no real reporting in this sport.
DC didn't even know Reed was ill.

What is Reed's illness? How is his knee?

Will James get his knee fixed? How bad is the wrist?

James hasn't rode for a "factory" team since 2008, racing for Yoshimura Suzuki is what he gets PAID to do! Objective mystery solved Woohoo

I just hope they both get strong. As a huge RV fan I found myself cheering for both the old dogs today.

Noticed you're from Cincinnati as well, Have you ever rode at Dirt Country or New Vienna?

Exactly. They're probably paying him millions to ride. Not quit and go home.

On that note I'm a big fan of his and it does suck to see him get passed by RV and RD like just someone in their way.
